So sorry to hear of Phil's passing. He was instrumental to me while we were setting up our studio at Yale SOM. We spoke often on the phone, passing guests back and forth when either of our studios were overbooked. Usually those quick chats turned into longer conversations about other projects or our Bay Area connection. He was always jovial and genuinely willing to help.
Phil's family and friends will surely miss him, but will hold pleasant memories of his time with us.

I met Phil 23 years ago when he came to (then) Quinnipiac College to pursue a career in video production. So here comes Phil in his 40's to take classes with a kid 21 years his junior -- me. I immediately bonded with Phil because not only was he just the sweetest damn guy ever, but his taste in music and movies was just as good as mine. No, his was better and he introduced me to a plethora of new albums and movies to watch. Throughout my 2 years at QC, Phil and I would often visit Best Video in Hamden to get some movies on laser disc to watch in the brand new screening room at the college. After I left QC and Phil graduated, we stayed in contact with some Super Bowl parties and such. Then Phil got a job with Yale Media Services with another former student of mine from Middlesex Community College, where I anded following QC. Every time I went down to that office underground in the early days, Phil was there with that big , warm smile and hours later I'd be running out late for something because talking with Phil was just that fun and engaging. I can't believe 23 years has passed and the phone call I got last weekend has unraveled me for a week now. There just aren't enough superlatives that one can attach to the man that is Phil Kearney. Anyone who has had their life been touched by Phil knows exactly what I mean.
RIP my friend. And thank you for all of your insights and for being so patient while snot-nosed kid played college professor on you. You were one-of-a-kind.
