Richard Krusinski Obituary

Richard A. Krusinski
Richard A. Krusinski (Krusczinski) passed away peacefully, surrounded by loving family, on September 7, 2024, at the age of 99. Born in West Hazelton, PA on November 23, 1924, he was the eldest son of Thomas and Helen (Marciniak) Krusinski.
Richard, who also was affectionately known as Dick or Richie, moved to Bridgeport, CT in 1941, at the urging of his wonderful uncle, Charlie. From 1943 to 1946, he proudly departed to serve in the U.S. Army during WWII, seeing action in New Guinea, Leyte, Luzon and Manila. He was awarded the Purple Heart after being injured by bursting shrapnel.
A graduate of Harding High School and having attended UConn, he began a 39-year career with the Post Office Department (now the USPS). He served at historic Penn Station, AMF-LaGuardia and AMF-Idlewild (JFK) before transferring to the Bridgeport Post Office, where he worked the second shift until retirement. A child of the Great Depression, and a man of extraordinary dedication to his family, he would rise early the next day to work a second job, delivering for Marsh Dairy.
Along with his wife, Dorothy, Richard was a devout Roman Catholic and a faithful volunteer at St. Andrew Parish since its consecration. Their efforts were recognized with the St. Augustine Medal of Service in 2012. He also was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Cabrini Council.
Ever energetic, and a lifelong participant and fan of many sports, he received the Athletic Achievement in Sports Award from the Greater Bridgeport Athletic Association (Old Timers) in 2007. He played basketball and softball into his eighties and won many individual and team medals at national Senior Olympics events across the United States, including New York, Texas, Louisiana and Arizona. He and Dorothy combined these road trips with visits to many National Parks.
Richard is survived by his two sons, Arthur G. Krusinski (Linda) of Sudbury, MA, and Richard (Rick) Krusinski (Joan) of Milford, CT; five cherished grandchildren, Richard J. Krusinski, Susan Krusinski, Melissa Goncalves (John), Megan Embler (Justin) and John Krusinski; and four great-grandchildren, Jackson and Grayson Goncalves, and Lucas and Nathan Embler.
He is also survived by his sister, Irene Symansky of Ft. Edward, NY, his sister-in-law Elizabeth Krusinski of Stratford, and several generations of nieces and nephews.
Richard was predeceased by Dorothy, his beloved wife for 68 years to whom he was deeply devoted. He was also predeceased by his brothers Thomas, Leo, Wallace, and Norbert.
Visitation is Monday, September 16, 2024, from 8:30 AM to 10 AM at Pistey Funeral Home, 2155 Main Street Stratford, followed by an 11:00 AM Mass at St Andrew Parish, 395 Anton Street, Bridgeport. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 1056 Daniels Farm Rd., Trumbull, CT.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory can be made to the National Kidney Foundation.

Miy sincere condolences to the entire family. I really do miss Mr. Dick a lot. We had such a blast at the Army-Navy games, where I made him a celebrity in the military community. He certainly did not expect me to do this, but I had to make sure that he got the respect and recognition that he earned and deserved. Fly high, buddy!

Although I was mostly a young pup in West Hazleton, PA, I remember Richie & Dottie visiting and staying with my parents on their many car travels. Their energy was amazing, visiting with all the relatives in the area. Blessings to him and his entire family.

Dear Arthur and Richard. My dad Walter worked at the Post Office with your dad for many years and they remained friends throughout those years and into their retirement years. Your dad was able to attend my dad´s funeral and since their friendship lasted for so many years, my mom asked him to sit in the first pew with our family. Your dad was an amazing man. I regret I will not be able to attend the funeral but know you are in our thoughts and prayers. Our deepest sympathy to you both.

It was an honor and a privilege getting to know Dick, he was so awesome to talk to and hear all his stories. He loved his great grandchildren and hoped to one day see them play sports! You will be missed but you now are with the love of your life watching over your family with your beloved Dot. Rest peacefully Sir!
