Rita Batchelor
Rita Pekar Batchelor, age 90, of Shelton, CT, Milford, CT and Punta Gorda, FL; wife of the late Dewey P. Batchelor, died on Sunday, May 25, 2025 at Apple Healthcare-Shelton Lakes.
Rita was born in Bridgeport to the late William and Margaret Pekar and was known for her beautiful singing voice. She was part of the choir at St. John Nepomence and was asked to sing at many weddings. She spent her entire career at AT&T/Southern New England Telephone (SNET) where she served in many roles, retiring after 35 years.
Survivors include a beloved sister, Theresa Yash of Stratford and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers John, Bill, Mike, and George Pekar and sisters Marge Hovanec, and Ceil Pieger.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 30, 2025 at St. Lawrence Church, 505 Shelton Ave., Shelton, CT. Friends may greet the family on Friday at church from 10:40 a.m. until time of service. Interment will follow at St. Michael's Cemetery in Stratford. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in her name to the Alzheimer's Association. The Family thanks the staff at Shelton Lakes for their dedicated and loving care.
