Robert Dolan Obituary

DOLAN Robert J. Dolan, age 73, of Lauderhill, Fla., died Sunday, February 19, 2006. Mr. Dolan was born and raised in Bridgeport until he joined the U.S. Marine Corps at age 17 in 1949, retiring as gunnery sergeant in 1969 after 20 years active duty and after being offered promotion to the top non-commissioned officer's rank of master gunnery sergeant. Spending the rest of his days in the private sector, he is survived by wife, Mary Lou; sons, Nathaniel, Robert Jr., Bruce, Sean and Brian; daughter, Nancy; sister, Margaret Brooks (also deceased March 10, 2006); nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. Initial services took place on Saturday, February 25, 2006, at the family church in nearby Tamarac, Fla. Having earned his place among his military brothers, "Gunny" Dolan is to be interred with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA on June 1st, 2006 at 1:30 p.m. Those wishing to attend the graveside services are required to arrive at the cemetery administration building by 1:30 p.m. with transportation to the graveside. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund, 825 College Boulevard, Suite 102, P.M.B. 609 Oceanside, CA 92057. Those wishing to contact the family may do so via Panciera Memorial Home in Hollywood, FL at (954) 989-9900.

Although I did not know this man, I know his son, Nathaniel. His integrity, love for country and compassion for others tells me that his father did a very good job of instilling these values (and many others) into his son.



His legacy lives on in those who have been left behind and have spent the time and energy to see that his wishes were honored.



He would be proud!
