Robert Musicant Obituary

MUSICANT Robert Musicant of Wilton, devoted husband of Aurora Campanella Musicant and beloved brother of Judith Musicant, passed away on Sunday, August 3 after a long illness. A resident of Connecticut since 1984, Mr. Musicant maintained a private law practice in Norwalk. Mr. Musicant earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Columbia University and a Ph.D. from the University of Oklahoma in biological psychology, a field that focuses on the study of mind/body interactions. After deciding to enter the practice of law, Mr. Musicant earned a Juris Doctor from the University of California at Los Angeles. After working in a variety of legal fields, he decided to devote his career to the zealous representation of poor and underprivileged individuals seeking to obtain or protect social security disability benefits. After contracting an autoimmune disorder, he devoted substantial time and resources to investigating treatments of these conditions and in that capacity served on the executive board of the Lupus Foundation of America, Connecticut Chapter, Inc. While his professional expertise was in the field of law, Mr. Musicant's personal passions were traveling with his wife Aurora and chess. He played competitively for many years. In 1990, he organized a chess club for children at the Norwalk Public Library, along with his friend, Chris Potts. He was also a chess tournament director and a founder of the Norwalk Knights Chess Club. Possessed of a relentlessly inquisitive mind, Mr. Musicant tirelessly researched political and social topics. He was a frequent contributor to the letters to the editor pages of several newspapers, including the New York Times. He will be dearly missed by a host of devoted friends and relatives. There will be a private memorial service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the APS Foundation of America, Inc. which can be found at www.APSFA.org. Arrangemetns in care of Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Avenue, Norwalk.

Dear Aurora, I was so shocked to hear of Bob's passing. I know you will keep him in your heart forever. He was a true friend and neighbor. I was also so happy to refer my patients to him. He was able to secure SSDI benefits for many and they were eternally greatful for his help. With affection, Jeff Cohen
