Stephen Dolben Obituary

Stephen Mooradian Dolben
Stephen Mooradian Dolben, 49, of Bridgeport, CT, died at Connecticut Hospice on July 12 after a courageous two year battle with cancer. He was born in Albany, NY, graduated from Syracuse University, and received a JD degree from St. John's Law School in 2004. Initially he worked as an Assistant District Attorney in Brooklyn and later for a variety of firms in Manhattan. Stephen is survived by his loving partner Annette Jongsma and her two children, Kes and Kyra. He is also survived by his mother and stepfather, Linda and Terrell Way of Slingerlands, NY and by his stepsister, Dr. Denise Annie Way, his brother-in-law Warren Craghead III, and their two daughters, Violet and Ginger, of Charlottesville, VA. He was predeceased by his father, William Whitney Dolben, and by his stepsister Billie Katherine Way. Before his illness Stephen greatly enjoyed athletics and fitness. He ran the Chicago Marathon in 1998, participated in the 1999 New Year's Eve "Run Into the New Century" in Central Park; and a few years before his illness completed a Half Ironman Triathlon on Long Island. Stephen and Annette enjoyed several trips to Europe where they visited Annette's family in Holland and skied with them in both France and Switzerland. Stephen never gave up during his illness; he longed to beat cancer and run, swim, bike, and ski again. Stephen will be remembered for his great zest for life – he had a quick and lively wit, a ready charm, and a continual willingness to engage life's "big questions." He made us laugh, examine routine assumptions, and think more deeply. He will truly be missed. There will be a wake and an opportunity to share memories of Stephen at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 21, at Redgate-Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and 4 Gorham Place, Trumbull, CT. In addition there will be a Celebration of Life Service at the First Unitarian Universalist Church in Albany, NY on August 19th at 1:30 p.m. To send online condolences please visit www.redgatehennessy.com

I'm very sorry for the loss of the man who had the most beautiful smile I have ever seen. I have known Stephen since grade school and have very fond memories of all the times we had spent together as friends .I was blessed to have had communication with him throughout his illness. His warm heart and kind words and his positivity towards his cancer will always remain with me. Myself and all his lifelong friends are all extremely saddened and heartbroken but find peace in knowing that heaven has gained a beautiful angel. My sincere condolences to you all at this difficult time.
