Steven Gravitz Obituary

Steven Gravitz
Steven Gravitz, age 58, of Queens, NY passed away on December 16, 2020. Born in Bridgeport Hospital on Mother's Day, May 13, 1962, Steven and his parents lived for a short period of time in the Bridgeport area before moving into Trumbull in 1965
Steven was the son of Barbara and Michael Gravitz.
Steven matriculated at Trumbull High School and went on to Norwalk Tech Community College getting a degree in IT (Information Technology). Steven learned to play the guitar and the piano and joined a band while still in school.
He met the love of his life Fang while both worked in New York City. They were married on October 11, 2002. Steven and Fang loved to travel; they made many trips together throughout their marriage – especially enjoying their journey to China to visit with Fang's relatives.
Steven will always be remembered by his family and friends for his smile and kind demeanor. His quick wit and sense of humor shined through in even the most difficult times, especially the last 6 months of his life.
Steven will be greatly missed by his wife of 18 years, and especially his daughter, 7-year-old Emily and his son Rane. After retiring from his work at TripScanner, Steven was asked to become a teacher's aide at Emily's grammar school located across the street from their home.
Steven and Emily enjoyed so many hours being together, a month ago Steven bragged that Emily can now ride a 2-wheel bike. She will miss him so much.
Steven leaves behind his brother Marc (Alecia) and their children Brock and Mia, and his sister Karen Gravitz Badger (Jon) and their children Erika and twins Jared and Leah.
Due to the CoVid-10 pandemic, interment for immediate family. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Steve was an exemplary father and devoted so much free time to our school.
He will be greatly missed.

Steve, was an inspirational mentor to me at such a pivotal time in my life.

I’d just switched careers from architecture to tech when I worked with him, and he encouraged me to explore my curiosity - even when it didn’t align with what we were doing at work. In our time working together, I picked up the coding bug and learned invaluable skills that still serve me to this day. He was an excellent collaborator, loved to share music and movies, and I will always look back on our days together fondly.

Rest well my friend.

When we were all together in K-205, Steve volunteered every single day. The kids loved him, and saw him as a surrogate parent in class.

Steve had a wonderful sense of humor. He knew the lyrics to every song ever written, I believe. And could sing them all!

Steve led small groups in fun activities, and the kids loved learning because of his good nature and fun approach to everything.

If we did puppets, he would help Emily build a puppet theater at home and make up plays. He always extended the lessons beyond the classroom.

Steve came on nearly every trip. He faced the lunchroom noise and helped open milk and containers.

When we had dance class, he would dance with us. When we sang, he sang the loudest. He made us laugh all the time. He made our class a joyous place to be.

It was a year of wonderful kids and parents, and so many volunteers. We were so lucky to have each other.

As we shared the joy, we must share the sadness, too. We keep our dear ones alive in our memories. Let us support Janet and Emily as best we can, as they will feel the deepest loss for this incredible and irreplaceable man. Life will never be the same for them. We love you, Steve.

I last saw Steven at his grandmother's funeral last winter, just before covid. I remember that we had a sweet, lovely conversation catching up on each other's family and life. I am so grateful to have spent that time with him and got to know him better. I will miss him. May his memory be a blessing
