Thomas J. Edwards Sr.

EDWARDS Thomas J. Edwards Sr., age 87, of Fairfield, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, May 16, at St. Vincent's Medical Center with his loving family by his side. Born in Newark, NJ, Tom and his brother Jack were orphaned at an early age and spent their youth at the Lincoln-Watts Orphanage in New York. A graduate of Yonkers High School, Tom was a star athlete setting the mile run record, which he held for over a decade. He was an Eagle Scout and later went on to serve in the US Navy as a medic attached to the Marines during World War II. Tom was the owner/operator of the Country Home Improvemente Co., which he established in 1955, which his son Lawrence still operates to this day. He was an Auxiliary Police Captain for the State of Connecticut as well as a Special Deputy Sheriff for Fairfield County. As an active member of AA over the years has helped many people in need. He will be fondly remembered for his great sense of humor and love of family and will be greatly missed.Survivors include his children, Thomas Edwards Jr., Stephen, Michael, Jonathan and Lawrence Edwards, Karen Picard, Laurie Sercu and Louise Chapedelaine, two stepchildren, MacGregor and Janet Toombs; 19 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. Tom was predeceased by his first wife, Evelyn, the mother of his nine children and his second wife Noel, mother of his two stepchildren, his son, David and brother, Jack. Funeral services will be held on Friday beginning with a visitation at 9 a.m. in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Rd., Fairfield Center until the procession to St. Thomas Church, 203 East Ave., Norwalk at 10:15 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11a.m. Interment services to follow at Riverside Cemetery with full military honors.
