Todd Dowty Obituary

Todd S. Dowty
Todd S. Dowty, of Shelton, beloved husband of Jane Corridor Dowty, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 20, 2018 with his loving family by his side. Born in Fall River, MA on September 11, 1956, he was the son of the late Clifford and Claire Slater Dowty. Employed by the Town of Hamden Board of Education, Todd was a teacher with 20 years of dedicated service and former football coach at Hamden High School. Todd was a loyal husband, caring father, inspirational teacher, coach and a loyal friend to all who knew him. He dedicated his life to helping others and will be missed dearly by many. Todd had a special quality which made him a great mentor and confidant for all who needed him when it mattered the most. He was a skilled craftsman who shared his talent and passion with others over the years. Todd was instrumental in the community and devoted countless hours to coaching various youth sports and volunteering in the school system. From being a pillar in the development of the Shelton Flag Football League to serving as a Commissioner on the City of Shelton WPCA, Todd was truly one of a kind. To have known him was to have loved him. In addition to his beloved wife of 37 years, Jane, survivors include two loving sons, Brandon Dowty and Brett Dowty both of Shelton, three brothers, Daryll Dowty and his wife Nancy of Middletown, Gregg Dowty and his wife Liz of Maine and Scott Dowty and his wife Gloria of Massachusetts, an uncle, Clyde Slater and his wife Joan of Florida, two sisters-in-law, June Corridor and Carol Corridor; as well as several nieces, nephews, dear cousins and many friends. Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. directly at St. Joseph Church, 424 Coram Ave, Shelton for a Mass of Christian Burial. I am deeply saddened by Todd's passing! I was so excited to get back into the teaching field in my forties after concentrating on my law practice for two decades. Todd was a contractor who followed the same path and we taught together at Hamden High School for 20 years. I never heard a football player or student say anything but good about this caring and dedicated teacher and coach! He was a reliable friend and mentor to his students and colleagues. We both love the Red Sox and were overjoyed that they won three titles during our careers at this High School. We shared a lot of concerns about the team as baseball fans. Finally-I talked to him constantly about family and he was truly dedicated to his family. I know their loss must be staggering! The Hamden High family that truly loved and admired him is deeply affected by the loss of this great man and role model! Rest in Peace Todd! Sean Butterly

"Todd is a great man. He will be deeply missed. There are too many memories to share about what a great person he is. We always talked about my different design ideas and how they could be built. We coached together and bounced ideas off one another. He was a very generous person with his time and is very affable. It is now quite difficult walking towards the office to sign-in because we passed each other there at the same time every morning for many years now and always gave each other the same look of two soldiers who had fought side by side each other and we always, always said hello. We were both always kind to one another through all the years. I am reminded daily of his distinctive voice and laugh. I always thought he would be back. He is missed.

Jane I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Todd. I have very fond memories of him as we all spent lots of time together while we were all involved in the ESS PTA. You are in my thoughts during this difficult time.

Jane and family, I was very saddened to hear of Todd's passing. Todd was one of the people whose classes I always enjoyed visiting, and what was most special about Todd was his ability to reach and work with some of our most challenging students. He had a big part in making sure that several of them stayed in school and got a diploma. I remember fondly our many chats about football, and lots of other topics.

Seems just like yesterday he was walking into the adult ed office to make copies for his exams (which he ALWAYS forgot to come and get) and me with my usual greeting of Oh Heyyyy Todd Hands down, one of the nicest guys I've ever known. HHS has lost a great educator and a great friend to all. I'm so very sorry to hear of his passing. My thoughts and prayers are with your family at this time.
