I am deeply saddened by Todd's passing! I was so excited to get back into the teaching field in my forties after concentrating on my law practice for two decades. Todd was a contractor who followed the same path and we taught together at Hamden High School for 20 years. I never heard a football player or student say anything but good about this caring and dedicated teacher and coach! He was a reliable friend and mentor to his students and colleagues. We both love the Red Sox and were overjoyed that they won three titles during our careers at this High School. We shared a lot of concerns about the team as baseball fans. Finally-I talked to him constantly about family and he was truly dedicated to his family. I know their loss must be staggering! The Hamden High family that truly loved and admired him is deeply affected by the loss of this great man and role model! Rest in Peace Todd! Sean Butterly

Mr. Dowty was a great teacher. He was caring, soft spoken, and always gave a good push for success. I will miss you Mr. Dowty, from your former student Tempest Jones.

"Todd is a great man. He will be deeply missed. There are too many memories to share about what a great person he is. We always talked about my different design ideas and how they could be built. We coached together and bounced ideas off one another. He was a very generous person with his time and is very affable. It is now quite difficult walking towards the office to sign-in because we passed each other there at the same time every morning for many years now and always gave each other the same look of two soldiers who had fought side by side each other and we always, always said hello. We were both always kind to one another through all the years. I am reminded daily of his distinctive voice and laugh. I always thought he would be back. He is missed.

Jane and family, I was very saddened to hear of Todd's passing. Todd was one of the people whose classes I always enjoyed visiting, and what was most special about Todd was his ability to reach and work with some of our most challenging students. He had a big part in making sure that several of them stayed in school and got a diploma. I remember fondly our many chats about football, and lots of other topics.

Seems just like yesterday he was walking into the adult ed office to make copies for his exams (which he ALWAYS forgot to come and get) and me with my usual greeting of Oh Heyyyy Todd Hands down, one of the nicest guys I've ever known. HHS has lost a great educator and a great friend to all. I'm so very sorry to hear of his passing. My thoughts and prayers are with your family at this time.
