Allen C. Dowty, age 77, was born on December 25, 1948 to the late Howard and Loretta Dowty. His arrival made history as he was the first Christmas baby born in
Fall River, MA. that year. Al was raised in
Ferndale, MI with his younger brother, Ernest. As a child, he was a cub scout and enjoyed playing baseball. In 1966, during his senior year at Hazel Park High School, Al was the 5th man on the cross country team when they won the state championship that season. The qualities he gained from this pivotal accomplishment were carried with him into every facet of his life.
Al's natural talent for playing the trumpet was discovered in high school and then fostered at Eastern Michigan University. He enjoyed playing in their marching band every year he attended before graduating in 1972 with a BA in music. After college, Al continued to dedicate himself to the art of music. He shared his gift with students in Southfield and Hazel Park as a band instructor and providing private trumpet lessons. Professionally, Al's musical talents were displayed at weddings, clubs, and parties for over 10 years, and he also played with the Warren Concert Band.
Al met Carol in college and they wed in 1974. During their 51 years of marriage, they shared so many wonderful moments. Their strong relationship provided a stable foundation as they raised their 3 children (Brian, Erin, and Brandon) in
Troy, MI. Together, they modeled the epitome of what true partnership entails which continues to translate to their children's own families. In later years, their travels took them all over the world and they were fortunate to visit all 7 continents together.
In his career, Al spent decades as a respected realtor in the community. He managed several offices and was one of the broker/owners of REMAX Partners in Royal Oak. He expanded his career by working hard to become one of the few state licensed appraisers in the area. During this same time, Al joined the Hazel Park Lions Club and remained a member for the rest of his life.
Al had an infectious laugh and was never too shy to make a joke; especially if it was at his own expense. To know Al was to love Al. With all the humor that was woven into every aspect of his life, Al's true "home" was with his family. His greatest pride wasn't found in his professional success or personal accomplishments. Rather, it was when sitting in the bleachers and auditoriums where he cheered on his children and grandchildren. He was their biggest fan, and his legacy lives on in the music they play and the sports they pursue.
Al died surrounded by his wife and children on Thursday, February 12, 2026. Al is survived by his wife, Carol Dowty; children, Brian Dowty, Erin Johnson (Jeffrey), and Brandon Dowty (Angela); grandchildren, Ava, Kyle, Juliette, Lucas, and Adriana; and brother, Ernest Dowty (Judy).
