Joe W. McCormick

Joe Wayne McCormick passed away on February 27, 2026, at the age of 83. Born on July 19, 1942, in St. Louis, Missouri, he was the beloved son of Clyde Forrest and Iva Mae McCormick (née Hamilton). They lived briefly in Lemay, Missouri, then moved to Pacific, Missouri, where he grew up with his brother, Terry.

Joe married his high school sweetheart, Shirley Ann Tyron, on June 2, 1962, in Pacific, Missouri. In the late 1970s, the couple moved to Troy, Michigan. They enjoyed 61 wonderful years of marriage before Shirley's passing in 2023. Their enduring love and commitment to each other were admired by all who knew the happy couple.

Joe had a successful and fulfilling career in the automotive industry, spanning 35 years. He began his career as a Parts and Service Representative in Missouri, progressed through many management roles, and completed his career as Director of Dealer Operations. Joe became a strong leader and was well respected among colleagues and clients.

After retiring, Joe found joy in trading his suits and ties for a helmet and biking gear. He discovered recumbent cycling and gave it his all. He loved going on rides and working on his bikes. Being handy and resourceful, he often completed his own repairs and added electric assist modifications. Joe was also kind and generous, always willing to help friends with their bikes. He found camaraderie among fellow recumbent cyclists and valued the relationships he built in the community.

Joe was a proud father of three children: Bruce Alan McCormick (Sherri), Paul Bryan McCormick (Janet), and Lisa Anne McCormick. As a devoted grandfather, Joe cherished time with his six beautiful granddaughters: Abigail, Phoebe, Chloe, Hannah (Walker), Katie, and Rachel.

Joe is also survived by his younger brother, Terry McCormick (Vivian).

Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 5, from 5–8 p.m. at A.J. Desmond & Sons, 2600 Crooks Rd., Troy, MI 48084. A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 6, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Visitation on Friday will begin at 10 a.m. Joe will be laid to rest at White Chapel Cemetery in Troy, MI.
