David F. Dowty, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on November 2, 2025, in Bolivar, Tennessee, at the age of 81. Born on August 12, 1944, in Saulsbury, Tennessee, David's life was characterized by his commitment to family, diligent work ethic, and deep community involvement.
David enjoyed a fulfilling career that began in the mail order department of Sears and Roebuck, where he dedicated 30 years of service before embarking on a new journey as a rural mail carrier. His reliability and attentiveness made him a cherished figure among those he served in his community.
A devoted member of the First Baptist Church in Grand Junction, David held the position of deacon, where he impacted the lives of many through his compassionate leadership and unwavering faith. His spiritual commitment was evident in his daily interactions, as he embodied the principles he stood for.
David was proud to be a Mason for 50 years, and he cherished his time spent riding horses and maintaining his yard, finding joy and solace in simple pleasures. His love for family was unconditional, and he took great pride in his role as a husband and father.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Peggy J. Dowty of Grand Junction; his daughter, Pam Lanier of Middleton; and his son, Paul Dowty, and daughter-in-law, Paula, of Middleton. David's legacy continues through his grandchildren: Hayden, Baylee, and Callee Lanier; Polly Dowty and Matthew Kirk (Jessica); along with his great-grandchildren, Conley and Hayes Kirk.
Cherished in memory are his parents, Clarence and Lorena Dixon Dowty, as well as his brother, Daniel Dowty, and sisters Hazel Dowty Huffman, Gladys Dowty Wilhite, and Gracie Dowty McAlister, all of whom predeceased him.
