W. Morehouse Obituary

W. Bradley Morehouse
W. Bradley Morehouse, son of H. Livingston Morehouse and Elisabeth Havens Morehouse, born July 30, 1923, died on December 4, 2021, at his Southport home, surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Morehouse was descended from early settlers on both sides, his father's ancestors having arrived in Fairfield in 1640 and his mother's in Stratford in 1639.
He is survived by his loving wife, Marian Bradley, his children Susan Morehouse, Christopher Morehouse and Rebecca Hall, his stepchildren Michael Bradley, Kate McGloon and Richard Bradley, as well as by four grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and his dear friend and fox-hole buddy, Dick Knudsen. He was predeceased by his sons Stephen Morehouse and David Morehouse and his daughter Lorna Morehouse.
Mr. Morehouse was a graduate of Northwood School, Lake Placid, NY; Dartmouth College summa cum laude; and Yale Law School. During World War II, he served in the US Army Infantry 273rd Regiment, in the United Kingdom, Belgium, France and Germany, receiving the Expert and Combat Infantry Badges and the Bronze Star. His regiment was the first unit of the Allied Expeditionary Force to link up with the Russians at Torgau, thus dividing Germany.
As a then-Republican, Mr. Morehouse served as moderator of the Fairfield Representative Town Meeting (RTM) for six years. He also served as President of the Connecticut Audubon Society, Director of the Fairfield Historical Society (now the Fairfield History Museum), Clerk and Vestryman of St. Paul's Episcopal Church Fairfield, Vestryman of St. John's Episcopal Church Bridgeport, President of the Dartmouth Club of Fairfield County, President of the Fairfield Chamber of Commerce, President of the Fairfield Bar Association, and Trustee of the University of Bridgeport. He was a former member of the Fairfield County Hunt Club, the Fairfield Beach Club, the University Club (Bridgeport), and the Saugatuck Fish and Game Club.
An avid sportsman, Mr. Morehouse fished for trout from Patagonia to Labrador and from New Zealand to France. He was also a hunter, a skier, a sailor and a tennis player. He was a fan of the Boston Red Sox, Boston Bruins, Patriots and Celtics, the Connecticut Huskies Women's Basketball team, and any Dartmouth team.
His favorite sport was reading, at which none surpassed him.
There will be a funeral service for Mr. Morehouse at 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 11 at Trinity Church, Southport, CT. Friends are invited to contribute to his memory to Dartmouth College, 6066 Development Office, Hanover, NH 03755-4400, the Connecticut Audubon Society, 2325 Burr Street, Fairfield CT, Planned Parenthood, 4697 Main Street, Bridgeport, CT 06606 or the Fairfield History Museum, 370 Fairfield Beach Road, Fairfield, CT.

The Board and Staff of the Fairfield Museum

December 10, 2021

The Fairfield Museum is deeply saddened to hear of Brad's passing. As an avid historian, and someone who was committed to preserving Fairfield's history, Brad was a passionate and hardworking Board member for many years. His guidance and support was instrumental in building the new museum in 2007, and his friendship and encouragement will be sorely missed by all of us. Fair winds and following seas Brad.

Dear Morehouse Family. Brad was a very dignified, brilliant man and faithful Christian. We were fellow parishioners at St. Johns in Bridgeport for many years. Brad lived a long life and did so much with the years the good Lord gave him. Well done good and faithful servant. Rest in peace. May perpetual light shine upon you now and forever.
