To the Fitzgerald Family,

I'm so sorry for your loss, I was one of Walt's students @ COOP, he is my hero. If it was not for him, I don't know where I would be today, he pointed me in the direction and never gave up on me. I will never forget his intoxicating laugh and all the advice he's given me that I will take with me always. I will never forget you Walt and everything you've done for me. You saved me and will always be in my heart

Margaret Mary I am very sorry about your loss

May 28, 2010

Dear Margaret Mary,
I just recently heard about Walter's passing and wanted to express my deepest sympathies. I had many enjoyable lunches with Walter at the former Andrew Warde High School where we were teaching colleagues. He had a great sense of humor and we had many laughs together. His Co-op students loved him. It has been 11 years since I have left Farifeld and CT and moved on to another chapter in my life but will always remember my years at Andrew Warde.

Sincerely,
Len Bennett

My condolences to you, Margaret Mary, and to your family during this difficult time. I got to meet Walter in 2006 when he became a member of the Fairfield Democratic Town Committee; he always said hello to me, and was kind to everyone. I remember him as part of the FHS basketball coaching staff, and as one of the teachers at Co-Op, where some whom I knew got to have the chance to know him as a teacher and a friend.
May you continue to hold on to good memories of Walter...he will be missed.

Walter was my teacher in the 1980's at Co-op.
Because of Walt, so many of us did wind up graduating instead of dropping out, including myself. He had such patience as a teacher and as a friend.I have thought of those days at the "COOP" often, we had some really good times.Building a canoe from scratch, time capsules, raft races, good music and taking all us seniors up and down the coast of California crammed in a van in 1985 and we had a blast.Anyone who knew Walter, knows what I mean.He was a wonderful, positive person and will be sadly missed by all whose lives he has impacted so much.My sincerest sympathies to the Fitzgerald family,I am truly sorry for your loss.

He will be greatly missed by all of the people whos lived he has touched. He was truely an inspirational man.

To the Fitzgerald Family:
My sympathy goes out to you. Having lost my younger brother Michael just last month, I know how hard it is. My fondest meories of Fitz was coaching our grammar school team at St. Emery's. In later years, I would see him at Smith Richardson playing golf in the first group out in the mornings with Dave Shultz.
Rest in peace, Fitz.

Walter was so very important to so many of Fairfield's disenfranchised youth. He made us all feel important and heard at such a vulnerable time in our lives. Could you imagine taking several angry teenagers to California on a school trip? I was one of those kids and I could not imagine taking just one. Walt was and shall always be a superhero in my heart. Go Yankees!

I am so sorry to hear about Walter's passing. Walter was one of my teachers at Co-op. He was a great teacher who always had a huge smile on his face. If it wasn't for him I don't think I would have graduated. I remember how he would always pick a verse from a song and sing it all day long. He will truly be missed.

Warm regards
