Wayne Gorton Obituary

Gorton, Wayne
Wayne Gorton, age 56, of Stratford and Tucson AZ, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 10, 2013 at his residence. Born in Bridgeport on May 16, 1956 and raised in Trumbull, he was a son of Anita Grillo Gorton of Stratford and the late Eugene (Fred) Gorton. He was a graduate of Trumbull High School. He worked in the Construction industry as a union glazer for many years, before starting his own business Closets Plus. He later moved to Georgia with his family before settling into Tucson, AZ. He then became a licensed Real Estate Agent involved in the development of properties in the rural Tucson area. As a young man he was skilled in karate and loved water skiing and scuba diving. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed teaching his oldest son to shoot, hunt and how to survive in the woods. He thoroughly enjoyed his fishing trips in Islamorada, Florida and fishing on Long Island Sound with his ten brothers where he would later take his two sons to teach them the ropes. Wayne was a man with a wild spirit and a heart of gold. Certain to bring a smile to your face or a laugh to your day. He was known for his contagious sense of humor and if you met him just once, guaranteed that's all it took for him to consider you a friend. He was an animal lover and walked everyday with his dog Benji. Wayne was a man with stories, an outdoorsman, a rebel and the most dedicated and loving Father he could possibly be.
In addition to his mother Anita, he is survived by his children, Peter of Tucson, Amy of Los Angeles and Mark of Phoenix and his former wife Jody of Tuscon, his brothers and sisters, Eugene Gorton and his wife Debbie, Bryon Gorton and his wife Peggy, Glenn Gorton and his wife Marianne, Nancy McClinch and her husband Terry, Gary Gorton and his wife Ann, Dean Gorton, Scott Gorton and his wife Carolyn, Jeff Gorton and his wife Karen, Greg Gorton and his wife Carmen and Keith Gorton and his wife Jung, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his dad, he was predeceased by his brother, Ronald Paul Gorton.
Friends are invited to meet directly at Our Lady of Peace Church, 230 Park Blvd., Stratford, on Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at 10 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in Nichols Village Cemetery, Trumbull. Friends may call on Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Catherine's Academy, 760 Tahmore Drive, Fairfield, CT 06825. To light a virtual candle, visit us at www.abriola.com.

Condolences to the Gorton family. I met Wayne when my ex-husband and I bought their house on Broadbridge Avenue in 1986 (I still live there). So young, so sad! I met him on several occasions and felt like I knew him for a long time.
