William Gazsi Obituary

William Joseph Gazsi
William Joseph Gazsi, 81, of Shelton, passed away, surrounded by his loved ones, on August 12, 2025, at Yale New Haven Hospital. Bill, as he was known to his family and friends, was born on November 12, 1943, at 2 lbs., to Joseph Gazsi and Julia (Harla) Gazsi in the house in Shelton that he lived in up until his passing. Bill graduated from Bullard Havens Technical School in 1961, specializing in analog electronics. He held a variety of positions over the years, ending his career as a Quality Control Manager at CTI Electronics in Stratford. Bill enjoyed a variety of hobbies, including judo, ham radio (K1CWH), woodworking, photography, playing classical Spanish guitar, collecting gemstones, gardening, poetry, cars, and astronomy. He had an endless pursuit of knowledge and a love of science. One of his proudest projects was repairing a toboggan, with his granddaughter, Katie, for his great-granddaughter. He loved listening to a variety of music and truly enjoyed eating chocolate, cheese, and salami. When his dog stopped eating store-bought bread, he started making his own bread, which they both enjoyed as buttered toast every morning. A lover of languages, he spoke English, Spanish, Polish, and Hungarian fluently and a handful of others, enabling him to befriend so many people from various facets of his life. Bill loved his family and helped his mother and father-in-law immensely as they aged. He was looking forward to celebrating his granddaughter, Nicole, in October at her wedding and will be there in spirit. Bill was predeceased by his sisters, Sylvia Ferdina and Judith Ehlers; his grandsons, Charles, William and Joseph Goclowski; and his favorite child, his fur son, Karoly. He is survived by his wife, Eugenia Gazsi, who will always miss her "babe" tremendously. He is also survived by his daughters, Kim Goclowski and Rachel (Brian) Harry; his grandchildren, Julia (Christopher) Caouette, Katie Goclowski, Jason Harry, Nicole Harry (fiancé, Jean-Paul Rattelade) and Allison Harry; and his great-granddaughter, Havana Caouette, who he adored beyond words. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, the Closer to Free Fund for Smilow Cancer Hospital or Shelton Animal Control. The family would like to thank all of his doctors and nurses at Smilow Cancer Center and the Yale SICU, especially Dr. Benjamin Judson. Calling hours will be on Saturday, August 16, 2025, from 8:30am – 9:30am at James T. Toohey & Son Funeral Home, at 92 Howe Avenue, Shelton, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph's Parish at 10am, at 50 Fairmont Place, Shelton. Burial will be at Mount St. Peter Cemetery, 219 New Haven Avenue, Derby. Condolences may be left at www.tooheyfuneralhome.com .

Dear Eugenia and family,

Sorry for your loss. I worked with Bill many years ago at Frigitronics. He was a great guy. I ran into Bill several times over the years in town and we always had a pleasant conversation.
