Jack Bitner Obituary

Jack Lawrence Bitner, 83, of Upper Mifflin Township, died Thursday, June 19, 2008, at Green Ridge Village, Newville.

Born in Harrisburg, he was the son of the late George D. and Sadie Shultz Bitner.

Mr. Bitner was a retired chemist with the Naval Reserch Laboratory in Washington, D.C., and he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He was a member of Alpha Sigma, Phi Beta Kappa and Sigma XI, and a member Emeritus of the American Chemical Society. He was a life member of VFW Post 477 and VFW Post 6070 and American Legion Post 233.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Catherine M. Etnoyer Bitner; his daughter, Jacqueline K. Bitner (and her husband, Roger D.) Dennison; and three grandsons, Austen A., Logan H. and Luke S.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in First United Presbyterian Church, 111 Big Spring Ave., Newville, with the Rev. Vern Gauthier officiating. Viewing will be from 1-2 p.m. Monday at the church. Burial will be in Newville Cemetery with full military honors.

Egger Funeral Home, Newville, will handle arrangements.
