Jesse Shoemaker Obituary
Jesse Shoemaker, 89, of Newville died on Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2009, in the Shippensburg Health Care Center.
He was born on May 27, 1920, in Pond Bank, and was the son of the late Samuel Burns and Anna Scott Burns Shoemaker.
Mr. Shoemaker is survived by his wife, Doris Gettle Shoemaker. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Edna Swanger Shoemaker.
Jesse was a retired farmer, and belonged to the Dickinson Presbyterian Church in Carlisle.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Jerry Shoemaker of Boiling Springs and Jesse Shoemaker Jr. of Newville; his four daughters, Jane Smith of Newville, Janet Radabaugh of Newville, Ann Thomas of Shippensburg and Jeraldine Schorr of Newville; three sisters, Anna Hancock, Mae Varner and Rachel Cover, all of Shippensburg; and many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, George Shoemaker, five brothers and two sisters.
A viewing will be held 6-8 p.m. Thursday in the Egger Funeral Home, 15 Big Spring Ave., Newville. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in the funeral home with the Rev. Philip Steele officiating. Burial will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery, Shippensburg.
