Richard "Dick" W. Haldeman, 83, of Zephyrhills, Fla., and formerly of Carlisle, died Sunday, July 16, 2006, at the Zephyrhills Hospital in Zephyrhills, Fla.
He was born on Aug. 14, 1922, in Kansas to the late Leland and Daisy Haldeman.
He retired with 32 years of service from the Mechanicsburg Navy Supply Depot in 1973 as a GS-12. He also worked part-time for the former Montgomery Wards for more than 15 years. He grew up in Rheems and graduated from Elizabethtown High School in 1940.
As a former member of The First Church of the Brethren in Carlisle, he taught Youth Sunday School. He also spent many summers as a counselor at Camp Swatara in Allentown. Most recently, he was involved in organizing water volleyball and bingo at various RV resorts he visited. He spend his winters in Arizona and his summers in New Hampshire, but always spent time every summer with his children in Carlisle and his son in St. Louis, Mo. Dick was a fun loving man who was a great storyteller and will be dearly missed by his family.
He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Janet Haldeman of Zephyrhills; two sons, Jeffrey T. Haldeman and his wife, Peggy, of St. Louis, Mo., and Michael R. Haldeman of Carlisle; two daughters, Molly J. Ressler and her husband, David, of Carlisle and Julie A. March and her husband, Timothy, of Carlisle; and seven grandchildren.
A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 22, in St. John's Episcopal Church, On the Square in Carlisle, with the Rev. Richard Witesel officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
Whitfield Funeral Home, 5008 Gall Blvd., Zephyrhills, Fla., is in charge of the arrangements.
