Walter Terry Eichelberger, 60, of 155 Fogelsanger Road, Shippensburg, died Thursday, Sept. 25, 2008, from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.
Born Feb. 28, 1948, in Mechanicsburg, he was a son of the late Gladys E. Eichelberger Topper.
Terry was a 1966 graduate of Cedar Cliff High School and a 1970 graduate of Rutgers University and attended the Shippensburg First Church of God.
He was a United States Air Force Veteran, serving four years of active duty, and later retired after 24 years of service with the Pennsylvania Air National Guard, where he served as a pilot with the 193rd Special Operations Wing. Terry was involved in several deployments, including Desert Storm, Granada, Kuwait, Panama and Iraq. He presently owned and operated two farms in Shippensburg. Terry was an avid hunter and loved playing soccer.
He was a member of the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post # 223 Shippensburg. Terry was a PIAA Soccer Referee and also was on the Board of Directors of the Cumberland Valley CO-OP in Shippensburg.
He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Judy Bard Eichelberger; two sons, Benjamin Bard Eichelberger and Nicholas E. Eichelberger, both of Shippensburg; two brothers, Gilbert G. Eichelberger of Wellsville and Dwight A. Topper of Lewisberry; and a special cousin, Ray L. Conley of Lewisberry. Several cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles also survive.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a brother, Eugene L. Eichelberger.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home Inc. The Rev. Paul L. Tatum and the Rev. Paul K. Hauk will officiate. Burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery with military honors conducted by the 193rd Special Operations Wing. A viewing will be held 6-8 p.m. Monday and one hour prior to the service Tuesday in the funeral home.
