Gerald Anson Obituary

Gerald "Jerry" D. Anson, 76, of Broken Bow, Neb., passed away Dec. 22, 2025.

Gerald was born Aug. 16, 1949, in Orchard to Delbert and Phyllis (Sukup) Anson. He was a multi-sport athlete and graduated from Page High School in 1967. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Kearney State College in 1972 and later completed his Master of Science degree at the University of Nebraska at Kearney. In 1972, Gerald enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served his country in Korea from 1973 to 1974.

On Dec. 23, 1972, Gerald married Ilene Davidshofer. Though they later divorced, Jerry and Ilene remained incredible, devoted parents to their children, Darrin and Rebecca, always placing family first.

Following his military service, Jerry began his lifelong career in education, teaching mathematics in Broken Bow. He devoted 31 years to teaching, where he was known as a patient, caring and dedicated educator. He was a beloved teacher, coach, mentor and friend, whose impact extended far beyond the classroom and touched generations of students.

In addition to teaching, Jerry worked for many years alongside his friend and colleague, Bob Seeger, repairing boats and later operated his own business, Anson Boat Shop. Anytime he was at the lake, Jerry was known for offering his help to others with broken-down boats, always generous with his time and skills.

Jerry was an active member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Broken Bow and a proud member of the Knights of Columbus. His faith was very important to him and guided the way he lived, taught and served others.

He loved fishing, hunting and spending time outdoors. His favorite times were spent at the lake exploring the shoreline and in nature searching for arrowheads. He spent countless hours at Calamus Reservoir, often walking the banks-not only enjoying the outdoors, but also picking up fishing lures, lost items and trash to help clean and preserve the environment he cherished.

Above all, Jerry cherished his role as a father and grandfather. He rarely missed his grandchildren's events, delighted in sharing his trademark "dad jokes," and had a special gift for bringing joy and laughter…and shenanigans to those around him.

Gerald is survived by his children Darrin and wife Tami Anson of Longmont, Colo., and Beckie and husband John Uelmen of Kearney; six grandchildren Holly, Abigail and Lucas Anson, and Kade, Whitney and Blake Uelmen; sisters, Janet and husband Roger Banks and Connie Thelander; special friend Beverly Schwisow; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents Delbert and Phyllis Anson; and brother-in-law Fred Thelander.

Visitation and time to greet family is Monday, Dec. 29, 5:30 to 7 p.m., followed by a Rosary at 7 p.m., all at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Broken Bow. Funeral Mass is Tuesday, Dec. 30, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Broken Bow. Burial with Military Honors will follow at 3 p.m. at Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Gerald D. Anson Memorial Fund (details to be provided later).

Govier Brothers Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Words of remembrance or condolences may be left at www.govierbrothers.com.

Jerry had a soothing and patient way of talking and a warm laugh. I enjoyed working with him.
