Larry B. Peters, 81, of rural Taylor, Neb., passed away peacefully at his home with his loving family by his side Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2024.
Larry Bruce Peters was born Feb. 4, 1943, at Sargent to Gordon and Frankie (Strohl) Peters. He was raised in the Kent Community where he received his early education then graduated from Taylor High School. Following high school, Larry did construction work in Central Nebraska.
On June 24, 1961, he was united in marriage to Patricia Ann Kraus at Taylor. The couple was blessed with three children - Sheila, Jon and Sally Jo.
Larry began working with his uncle, Donzel Strohl, at Western States Fire Protection Company. In October of 1962, they moved to the Don Hanna Ranch near Brownlee, where they resided for five years before moving to Circle A Ranch, working for Tim Wake.
After a year, they returned to the Don Hanna Ranch at Brownlee where Larry worked for 25 years. In 1986, the family made their home in Madisonville, Texas for five years before returning home to Nebraska.
Larry was involved in FFA, AQHA and the Taylor Jr. Rodeo. He enjoyed building stuff and could build just about anything. Larry's passion was horses and rodeos. He and Pat raised many horses; you never drove by their places without seeing a herd of them.
Larry was very active in rodeoing in his younger years, competing in steer wrestling and bull riding. During his kid's high school years Larry hazed for many young steer wrestlers and put on many miles taking his kids to rodeos. He loved following his kids and granddaughters later in life to rodeos, ropings, barrel races, school activities and ballgames.
Larry will be remembered as a man who never stepped back from hard work. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and did not know a stranger.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years Pat of Taylor; his three children and their families, Sheila Peters and Mike Yantzie of Taylor and granddaughter Lacey and Eric Vanis and their five children of Elgin, Jon and Maxine Peters and their family of Brewster and Sally Peters and granddaughter Gracey Jo Rodocker Peters of Taylor; and sister Linda Yantzie of Taylor.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and parents-in-law Jack and Anna Kraus.
Larry's wishes were to be cremated. In his honor a reception will be held at the Taylor Event Center in Taylor on Saturday, Aug. 31, from 4-6 p.m. with sharing of memories at 4 p.m. A meal will follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Taylor Junior Rodeo, Loup County FFA or 4 The Cure.
