Randy Rhoad Obituary

Randy Ray Rhoad, 75, of Sargent, Neb., passed away Nov. 5, 2025, in Sargent.

Randy was born Aug. 26, 1950, in McCook to Donal and Dorothy (Fekkers) Rhoad. He graduated from Sargent High School in 1968, where he was recognized in Who's Who Among American High School Students.

Randy attended Hastings College, Chadron State College and Central Community College in Columbus earning degrees in Social Services, Business Management and Accounting. Following college, he worked for the City of Grand Island in the Water Department and was actively involved in the tornado cleanup efforts in 1980. He then attended Mortuary School in Dallas, Texas.

After completing his studies, Randy returned to Sargent to work alongside his father at Rhoad Funeral Home, where he served families in the community until his retirement in 2017.

Randy was married to Mary (Wykoff) and to this union a son, William Travis, was born. The couple later divorced.

While living in Grand Island, he was married for a short time to Barb Miller. In 1997, Randy married Lori (Slagle), and the two made their home in Sargent.

In his free time, Randy enjoyed fishing and hunting, going to the casino and playing cards and polishing rocks. He also had a deep love for animals and took great care of his pets throughout his life. Randy never met a keepsake he couldn't find room for.

Randy is survived by his wife Lori Rhoad of Sargent; son, William Travis Rhoad of Honesdale, Penn.; sisters Rhonda (Rhoad) Smith and Darla (Rhoad) Haubold, both of Kearney; brothers David Rhoad of Sargent and Darwin Rhoad of Kearney; along with several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Randy will be remembered for his one-of-a-kind personality, his independence, his quirks and his love of collecting.

Funeral services will be at the Methodist Church in Sargent Friday, Nov. 14, at 10:30 a.m., with Don Schauda officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery.

A fellowship dinner will be held following the burial.

Visitation is Friday, Nov. 14, from 9:30 a.m. to service time at the Methodist Church in Sargent.

Memorials may be made to the family for future designation.
