Shelly Slagle, age 65 of Sargent, NE, passed away on January 30, 2026, in Kearney, Nebraska. Born on June 11, 1960, in Sargent, Shelly spent his formative years in his hometown, where he graduated from Sargent High School. Following high school, he pursued further education at North Platte College, eventually making a significant move to Arizona.
Shelly's professional journey began with owning and operating Slagle Repair, a venture that showcased his dedication to his craft and his commitment to serving his community. He later shared his skills and expertise while working for Danny Clark.
Shelly’s life was filled with rich memories and hobbies that brought him joy. He was an enthusiastic stock car racer in Sargent and took part in thrilling drag racing events in Kearney. His love for automobiles was evident, especially in his fondness for his 1967 Camaro and a range of cars and hotrods, hunting and fishing.
In his personal life, Shelly met and married Maria Irons on March 27, 1986, in Mohave County, AZ, sharing a bond that was cherished by all who knew them. Together, they built a family that includes their sons, Chris (Sara) Slagle of Sargent, Nathan (Melissa) Slagle of Ansley, and Justin Slagle of Sargent. He was also a proud grandfather to ten grandchildren, who brought immense joy and pride to his life. Shelly is also survived by his brothers, Bruce (Judy) Slagle of Valparaiso, and Doug Slagle of Bisbee, Arizona.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Sharon (Lacy) Slagle, and his beloved wife, Maria (Irons) Slagle
.A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, February 13, 2026, at 1:00 PM at the Church of Christ in Sargent, NE. Burial will follow in the Gates Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Family. A visitation and time to greet the family will be held on Friday, the 13th, from 11:30 to service time at the Church.
