Gabriel Anthony Matos

Gabriel Anthony Matos, 66 years old of Stanardsville, VA, died on July 20, 2025, at Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital. He suffered from health issues. He fought hard and long, but he succumbed to his illness. Gabriel in his younger days had his own business, Matos Flooring, he enjoyed installing carpets, ceramic tile, and hard wood floors. He also loved to hunt and fish as his pastime. Born March 16, 1959, in Ephrata, PA, he was the son of Gabriel and Hilda R. Matos. He was preceded in death by his father Gabriel Matos, Uncle Candelario Matos, and Cousins Candelario Matos, Jr. and Daniel Matos. Gabriel is survived by his daughters Melissa Eckert, Husband Evan of PA and Tiffany Bradley, husband Josh of VA; son Anthony Matos, wife Valerie, of VA. Six grandchildren Dakota Ambrose, Mackenzie Eckert of PA, Darius, Nathan and Blake Bradley, Rush Matos all of VA. He is survived by his three Siblings: Rosa Roach, husband Calvin, Joey Matos/Smith husband Randy, Ricardo Matos, wife Debi all of VA. Niece Crystal Stanley, nephews Allen Payne and Ricky Matos Jr. Great nieces Kaitlyn Shelton, Abigail Shelton, Emily Payne, Paige Payne and Milani Matos all of VA. Great Nephews Hunter Shelton and Coda Shelton of VA and his longtime friend of 28 years Rita Shifflett of Stanardsville VA. Special thanks to the staff at Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital ICU unit, for the care he received and the empathy towards the family as we stood by his side. A Celebration of Life is set for October 11, 2025, family is accepting donations to Hill and Wood to offset funeral expenses. Condolences may be shared on the tribute wall.
