Gregory Paine Irving

Gregory Paine Irving, age 80, of Louisa died on Friday, September 19, 2025, at his son's home in the presence of family. Born June 17, 1945, in Charlottesville, VA, he was the son of James R. Irving and Lucille Birckhead. He was preceded in death by his wife Barbara Jean Irving; four brothers, James R. Irving, Ralph V. Irving, Angel (Monk) L. Irving, Bobby W. Irving, brother-in-law Thomas Shull, his companion of 20 years Geraldine Crickenberger, and his favorite hunting companion Trapper. Gregory is survived by his son, Stephen, daughter-in-law Tammy Irving, daughter, Shelia E Irving; seven grandchildren; Christopher Irving and family, Sara Cuthbert and family, Katie Powell and family, Xavier Whitehead, Mya Whitehead, Nikki Swanson and family, a special grandson Stevie Swanson, 12 great-grandchildren, and brothers-in-law, Charles Shull, Leo Shull, Daniel Shull, and Gary Shull. Gregory was an avid hunter and fisher. He was a member of the Robuck hunt club. He spent countless hours in the wild, whether waiting for the perfect moment for a turkey to fly by his blind or patiently casting a line at his favorite fishing hole. In addition to his love for the outdoors, Greg loved working on cars and spent many hours with his brothers-in-law building and repairing cars. Beyond his passions, Gregory was a devoted family man, a provider, and hard worker into his late years. He will sorely be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. A visitation will be held Wednesday, September 24, 2025, 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Hill & Wood Charlottesville, Charlottesville, VA. Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, September 25, 2025, 1:00 pm at the Riverview Cemetery, Charlottesville, VA.
