Mark Maslyk Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mark Maslyk on February 15th, 2025, at the age of 66, in Charlottesville, VA. Mark was preceded in death by his Parents Lt. Col. Julian A. Maslyk and Christine (Canalos) Maslyk; Brother-in-Law, Paul Cangialosi; and two of his nephews, Sean Fenn & Joseph Ward. Two of his Batesville Blues Brothers, Chris Simpson & JP Fisher. He is survived by his Life Partner, Carla "Dee" Proffitt, her daughter Amanda P. Roberson and spouse Jesse and three children, Hayden, Bryson, and Mackenzie Proffitt. His six sisters and their spouses, Julie & Danny Mawyer, Miki & William Fenn, Ginny & Alan Atwell, Trish & Gregg Scheibel, Mary Kim (Paul) Cangialosi, and Tina Ward as well as countless nieces and nephews. Those that knew Mark knew that he lived his life in the fast lane, from Fighter Jets to Road Rallies which he won many times. Mark was an avid golfer, both ball golf and disc golf. He was a master musician, a very talented drummer and a fantastic singer. Mark was in multiple bands, The Batesville Blues Band [Brothers: Bates Gill, Walton Davis, Tony Dios, Larry Bracken, Chris Simpson, and JP Fisher & their spouses as well as Tom Power.] He was also a founder of 180/Metanoia, and the Full Moon Saloon Band. Mark also really enjoyed singing Bass and Alto with his sisters. Mark was a talented Title Underwriter. He also developed a language - The Language of CORN! Mark had the ability to light up the room upon arrival. Everyone that knew him has a story to tell that's full of laughter and joy or could comment on a story or joke that he would tell, be it appropriate or not. Mark didn't know a stranger and the thousands of people who knew him, know that his love and care went above and beyond measure. We will be holding a graveside service on March 29, 2025, at 1pm at Holly Memorial Gardens in Charlottesville, VA. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers we believe that Mark would love to have donations be made in his name to further Cancer research and potential cures. Condolences can be made on the tribute wall at www.hillandwood.com

I am so sorry to hear about Mark's passing. I just heard about it today. I'll remember him to be the only boy smack dab in the middle of six sisters. His smile was infectious and I know he will be sorely missed. My thoughts and prayers are with all you girls.

Dearest Mark,

What a beautiful spark in our lives! We have known you for nearly 40 years and every moment we are with you is funny, joyful, crazy, and lyrical--or all at the same time--in your own inimitable way. Thank you for all the amazing music and good times. Thank you for bringing all of this and more to this world and to our friendship. We miss you brother! With our love, Sarah and Bates

Mark was a coworker, friend, roommate, and a road rally copilot. We won a road rally, and the prize was a weekend in DC. He gave the prize to me to take my girlfriend. I proposed to her on that trip. Mark sang at my wedding. He was part of some of the best times of my life.
