Peter Pointon Obituary
Peter Richard Pointon June 16, 1956 – May 16, 2025
Peter Richard Pointon, passed away peacefully the morning of May 16, 2025, with his brother Mark and sister-in-law Jamie by his side. He was in declining health for the past several months.
Peter was the second of six children and the eldest son of Henry S. Pointon, Jr. and Simone R. Pointon (ne Belisle), and was born in Somerville, Massachusetts, on June 16, 1956. He had Down Syndrome since birth, so was lovingly cared for by his parents and family all his life.
He lived with his family in various locales, including Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Ohio, Panama and ultimately in Alexandria, Virginia starting in 1967. He then moved with his parents to Chancellorsville, VA in 1993. Following their passing, Peter was cared for by family members ultimately being in the Charlottesville, VA area since 2022.
Peter participated in Special Olympics when he was younger and excelled in running and swimming events. Peter went to school for persons with special needs until he was 18. After he "graduated," he worked various jobs until he "retired" in the mid-1990s.
Peter loved his meal times. Breakfast at 9:00, lunch at 12:00 and dinner at 5:00. He had many favorite foods including pizza, spaghetti, ham and cheese sandwiches, Chinese food, etc. This list could go on and on. He had a big sweet-tooth. He was notorious for sneaking cookies and snacks from the pantry. He was amazingly stealthy.
He loved comics and magazines and watching TV and movies. He especially liked to watch old western TV shows and movies and super hero movies. He knew the characters' names and the actors' names who played them! His favorite movies were the James Bond 007 series. He had every James Bond movie filmed, and watched them often, maybe daily. He was partial to Dr. No, Thunderball, and Diamonds Are Forever. He loved going to the movie theater to watch movies on the big screen, with big bucket of popcorn and a giant diet coke. He also liked pro wrestling, especially Hulk Hogan and The Rock, and collecting wrestling cards. We often had to research some of the ones he remembered because we had never heard of them. But he was right about them every time.
He is lovingly remembered by his siblings Michelle, Richard, Philip and his wife Joan, Mark and his wife Jamie, and their children, Cullen and Kira; and Nanette's (d.) children Gaites, Alaina, and Gavin; and cousins and friends. He will be interred at Quantico National Cemetery with his beloved parents, as a lifelong dependent.
His sweet soul will be missed by all of us.
