Thomas Moon Obituary
On Saturday, October 4, 2025 Thomas Jackson Moon, Jr. (known as Jackie Moon) went to be with his mother, Gladys Bickers Moon, and father, Thomas Jackson Moon, and infant daughter in eternity.
Jackie was born on March 21, 1947 and lived all of his life in the Woolen Mills and Belmont areas of Charlottesville, Va.
Jackie is survived by Angela Gianniny Moon, his wife of 58 years; two amazing daughters -Amy Moon Vega and Tiffany Moon Steward; two "sons" Luis Ricardo Vega (Ricky), and Lin Allen Steward Jr.; 5 grandchildren who filled his days with love, laughter, and video games -Aubrey Elizabeth Williams, Kayleigh Moon Steward, Alejandro Tomas Vega, Andreas Ricardo Vega, and Azael Mateo Vega; his best friend of 63 years and his hunting buddy, Ronald A. North; his church family, a host of long-time friends, and coworkers; and his napping buddy, Maddie., his cat.
Jackie was employed by Dominion Energy (formerly VEPCO) for 39 years before retiring in July 2007. He was a grounds man, meter reader, and meter servicer during his career there. Before settling at Dominion however, he wore a few other hats - he was a short order cook at the Pancake House restaurant, a cottage cheese maker at Monticello Dairy, and a soldier.
He served in the U S Army from November 1966 to April 1968, being assigned to Fort Bragg for basic training, Marine Engineering and Maintenance School and the 599th Medium Boat Company at Ft.
Eustis and then reassigned to the 3rd Infantry Division, 4th BN, 64th Armor in Germany until his discharge.
After his retirement in 2007, Jackie spent his time doing his favorite things -loving his family, cooking special treats for them, hunting, woodworking, being outdoors in the forests, and helping people. He never saw a need that he didn't try to fill if it was in his power, which reminded the entire family of his father before him.
Jackie was a member of Cornerstone Community Church (formerly Monticello Wesleyan church) for over 50 years. During that time, he served in many capacities including Sunday School teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, church bus driver, youth leader, board member, trustee, and, in later years, as a nursery worker which was one of his favorite jobs.
Friends and family are invited to participate in the following services honoring him:

A funeral service will take place at Hill & Wood Funeral Service (Charlottesville) on Friday, October 10, 2025 at 11 am followed by a graveside at Holly Memorial Gardens.
