Violet Craig Obituary

Violet G. Craig, beloved aunt, sister-in-faith, and cherished friend, passed peacefully on August 12, 2025, at the age of 90. Born February 6, 1935, in Fluvanna County, Virginia, Violet was the daughter of John Bowling and Virginia Marrs. Her life was a testament to kindness, devotion, and the joy found in simple pleasures. Violet married the love of her life, Maxey Craig, with whom she shared many happy years until his passing. She began her working life at Woolworth's in the Charlottesville Downtown Mall, where her warmth and diligence made her a familiar face to many. Later, she served as office manager at Roses, where her leadership and grace left a lasting impression. A woman of deep faith, Violet was highly involved in her church community, always ready to lend a hand or share a prayer. She found joy in fellowship, whether through playing bingo at Morningside, watching classic films (especially those starring Elvis Presley), or taking memorable trips with her family. Her sweet tooth was legendary, with Little Debbie cakes holding a special place in her heart. Violet played an instrumental role in raising her niece Teresa Wilson and nephew Bill Craig, nurturing them with unwavering love and guidance. Her influence extended far beyond her immediate family, touching the lives of many great and great-grand nieces and nephews, all of whom carry her legacy forward. She is preceded in death by her husband Maxey Craig and her parents, John Bowling and Virginia Marrs. She is survived by her brother-in-law Sidney Craig (Carole), devoted nephew Bill Craig (Leah), loving niece Teresa Wilson, Darlene Butler (Harold), Linda Moore, and a host of extended family members who will miss her dearly. A visitation will be held at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at Mount Eagle Baptist Church, with a Funeral Service at 1:00pm at Mt. Eagle Baptist Church. Burial will follow Immediately following at Monticello Memory Gardens. Violet's life was a beautiful blend of faith, family, and joy. Her memory will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew her.

Yesterday

I wasn't a friend of Violet, though I know I would like to have been. Her mother and my grandmother, Dorothy Johnson, were the best of friends. I'm sure she will be missed as much as both my grandma and Mrs. Bowling have been. Sympathy to the family.
