Born: December 24, 1940; in Howard, SD

Died: September 30, 2017; in DeKalb, IL

Edward C. Poppen, 76, of Sycamore, IL died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2017 at Kishwaukee Hospital in DeKalb, IL after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born Dec. 24, 1940 in Howard, SD, to Emil and Betty (Miller) Poppen. He married Carolyn Barber in 1996 in Sycamore. Edward was a self-employed Cornwell Tool businessman, proudly serving his customers for 27 years. He was a faithful member of the Sycamore United Methodist Church, a member of the Sycamore Kiwanis and the DeKalb Moose Club. He was a handy man, a NASCAR enthusiast and a wonderful husband and loving father.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn; two sons, Jeff Poppen and Mark Poppen; one daughter, Deb (Joe) Baird; two grandchildren, Jessi and Becca Baird; 9 siblings and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

His Visitation will be on Tuesday, Oct. 3rd from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the United Methodist Church, 160 Johnson Ave., Sycamore, IL., with a funeral service beginning at 7:00 PM. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery in Howard, SD.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Sycamore Kiwanis, TAILS animal shelter or the American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org) in care of the Butala Funeral Home and Crematory, 1405 DeKalb Ave., Sycamore, IL. 60178.
