Died: August 25, 2024 in Punta Gorda, FL
Gerald (Jerry) A O'Connell, Jr, 79, of Punta Gorda, FL passed away peacefully on August 25, 2024 (just 5 days short of his 80th birthday) with his step-daughter Debi (Watson) and her husband Bryan Trenholm by his side. He was born August 31, 1944 in Sycamore, Il to Gerald O'Connell, Sr and Lucille (Hoffman). The family lived in Kaneville, Il on their family farm. He attended school in Kaneville before moving to DeKalb, IL where he graduated from DeKalb High School.
Being an avid golfer, Jerry had the opportunity to play courses throughout the country achieving several "Holes In One" and a 9 Handicap. He was a long-time member of the the Elks Lodge 1392 in Sycamore, IL. Jerry's career spanned several decades and industries. He began as a handcraft piano tuner at Wurlitzer in DeKalb, IL before going to work for Seymour Of Sycamore. Where he woked as a foreman before becoming the Purchasing Agent for the company. Jerry first married Linda Komadina and had 3 sons: Darin Javon (Melanie), Michael Sean and Ryan Patrick (Suzanne). He later then married Sharon Kinser who had 2 sons: Mark and Steve. On April 4, 1992 he married Linda (Bowman) Sanders and gained 2 step daughters: Wendi (Watson) McHugh and Debi (Watson) Trenholm.
Upon retirement, Jerry and Linda relocated to Bella Vista, AR, where they enjoyed their retirement. His warm personality, dedication to his family, and commitment to his work and hobbies will be fondly remembered by all who knew him. He will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his children - Darin & Melanie O'Connell, Mike O'Connell, Ryan & Suzanne O'Connell, Wendi (Watson) McHugh and Debi (Watson) & Bryan Trenholm. His sisters: Patricia Thibault, Mary Williams and Julie Maertz. He is also survived by several grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
He is proceeded in death by his parents, Gerald and Lucille, and his second wife Sharon Kinser.
Jerry did not wish for a memorial service. Alzheimer's and Parkinson's has affected several members in his life and donations in his honor would be appreciated.
