Haakon L. Andreasen

Haakon L. Andreasen, 92, of DeKalb, Illinois, passed away Friday, June 6, 2025, at Oak Crest Retirement Center in DeKalb. He was born June 7, 1932, in Carlton, MN, the son of Haakon and Lillian (Halvorson) Andreasen.
Before Haakon graduated from Carlton High School in 1950, he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1949. He served in both the Army and National Guard until 1974, achieving the rank of Major. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business and Economics from the University of Minnesota Duluth in 1954 and returned to UMD to complete a Master's degree in Education and Economics in 1961.
On September 3, 1960, Haakon married Carol Juntunen in Esko, Minnesota-a partnership that would become the foundation of their life together.
Haakon and Carol moved to Iowa City, Iowa so he could pursue a Doctorate Degree in Business Administration which he completed in 1968. The family moved to DeKalb, Illinois in August 1967 where Haakon accepted an assistant professorship in Business at Northern Illinois University. He served in a variety of academic and administrative capacities at NIU retiring as the Director of the College of Business in 1990.
In addition to his academic and military career, Haakon was deeply involved in service and held many leadership roles with Westminster Presbyterian Church, DeKalb, the Masonic Service Association; and Sons of Norway Chapter 518. He was a lifelong member of the American Legion.
He is survived by his wife Carol Andreasen, his children Sara (Steve) Hopkins, Amy (Roger) Ochs, Karl (Cynthia Strand) Andreasen, and Elsa (Robert) Glover. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Anders and Peder Hopkins, Lyle and Lars Ochs, Nils, Finn, and Liv Andreasen and Nickolai and Julia Glover. He was preceded in death by his son Eric Andreasen.
A celebration of life will be held at 11 am Saturday, June 21, 2025, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 830 N. Annie Glidden Rd DeKalb, IL with Rev. Molly Fisherkeller presiding. Full Military Honors will follow the service at the church. Interment of cremated remains will be at a later date at Hillside Cemetery, in Carlton, Minnesota.
