John Arthur Newquist

Died: July 30, 2024
John Arthur Newquist, 88 passed away peacefully in hospice care in Byron IL on July 30, 2024 during the Beatles song "Here Comes the Sun." John was a resident of Barb City Manor in DeKalb, IL.
John was born June 23, 1936 in Racine, WI, the 5th son of Harvey and Mabel Newquist. John was a graduate of DeKalb High School, UTT School of Automation and George Mason University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Public Administration. John was a veteran of the United States Army and worked in the computer field for many years. He also had a career in other industries, such as building and running the The Peacock Restaurant and Bar in Creston IL and owning and operating Tin Barn Motors, a VW Bug restoration company in The Plains, VA.
John is survived by his wife Fran of VA, son John of IL, daughter Cindy Iverson (Gary) of AZ and son David of VA. He is also survived by his older brother Harvey (Pat) of AZ, five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers – Richard, Donald and Howard and their wives.
John was beloved by his family. He was a voracious reader, a music aficionado, had a hankering for sweet treats and loved woodworking, art and other creative pursuits. John gives special thanks to his brother Howard for reminding him that nothing is impossible if you try. The family gives special thanks to Tom Newquist, nephew, for tirelessly helping and assisting John during his move to DeKalb.
Cremation took place at Finch Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at St. Mary's Cemetery in DeKalb, IL in October 2024.
