John Paul Paulson, 91, of Genoa died Sunday, July 23, 2017 at his home.

He was born March 1, 1926 in Kirkland to Amil and Mary Ann (Tuma) Paulson. At the age of 8, he moved to Genoa on the farm where he lived. He attended Genoa schools, graduating from the Genoa Township High School-Class of 1944. He then farmed with his Dad and soon married his high school sweetheart, Alice Jean Storm on March 16, 1947. They enjoyed 70 years of marriage and from that marriage came two wonderful children, Jean Ann and Michael John.

John enjoyed many years serving on the Dekalb County Farm Bureau, the Dekalb County Soybean Association- where he served as a Board Member, the Genoa Township Cemetery Board and was a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Genoa. John volunteered at Safe Kid's events in multiple counties in Florida for All Children's Hospital. He served for almost a decade where he designed and created several 'wheels of safety' to quiz families on a number of health and safety topics.

Survivors include his wife, Alice Jean; his children, Jean Ann Shoemaker of Bradonton, FL and Michael (Madelyn) Paulson of Garden Prairie; 4 grandchildren, Rebecca (Mike) Myers of Chicago, Joseph (Sara) Paulson, Andrew (Sarah) Paulson of Sycamore and Melanie (Michael) Griffin of Tampa, FL; 5 great grandchildren, Kate Myers, Claire, Greta, Adyson and Jack Paulson; his brother, Edward (Alice) Paulson of Dekalb; his sister-in-law, Myrtle Storm of Emmitt, ID; one niece and 3 nephews.

He as preceded in death by his parents.

His visitation will be on Friday, July 28th from 9:30 to 11:30 AM at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 33930 North State Rd., Genoa, IL., with the funeral service beginning at 11:30 AM, with Rev. Jeremy Heilman officiating. Burial will be at the Genoa Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made for the Ann and Robert Lurie Children's Hospital in Chicago or the Trinity Lutheran Church of Genoa, in care of the Slater-Butala Funeral Home, 132 W. Main, Genoa, IL. 60135.

Alice Jean and Jean Ann, I wanted to let you know I remember John Paulson as a friend of my parents, Bob and DeEtte Hammer. Mom and Dad have been gone almost 8 years, but I know they thought highly of John.

I will always have a fond spot in my heart for John. He cropped the acres next to one of my childhood homes. Visiting with John was one of the highlights of my day.

May you rest in peace. I will miss our occasional heart to heart talks, and even if we disagreed, we continued our talks, and agreed to disagree. You will be missed.

In the 1970's we lived on a farm that John farmed. He would ride through on his tractor and always stopped and talked to the the kids. He also gave them gifts at Christmas. He was such a kind man and always very friendly
