Larry C. Blomgren, 55, of Sycamore, Ill., met with God on Friday, Aug. 6, 2010, at home with his wife at his side holding his hand.
Born May 2, 1955, in Rockford, the son of William L. and Roberta J. (Carlson) Blomgren, Larry married Linda Ann Grubbs on April 1, 2003, in Sycamore.
Larry had formerly been employed by Rockford Chemicals and later by Seymour of Sycamore for 17 years. He fought leukemia for 15 years, he gave it all he had. For six years, Larry walked in Light the Night for Leukemia, and was a member of the Sycamore Baptist Church. Larry started a scholarship for high school graduates going into the medical field, to help find a cure for cancer. He was the most determined person that anyone would ever meet. He was always happy and always had a positive outlook on anything that crossed his path – "I'm going to beat this!" Larry said. He taught his family and everyone to choose arguments wisely, because life is too short – enjoy your life and love everybody.
Larry is survived by his wife, Linda; one son, Douglass Hoover of Sycamore; his father, Bill (Connie) Blomgren of Rockford; three brothers, Steve (Karen) Blomgren of Rockford, Brad Blomgren of Florida and Bob Blomgren of Tinley Park; and two nieces, Lizzy and Michelle; his mother-in-law, Lois Grubbs of Sycamore; and his brothers- and sisters-in-law, Robert (Patty) Grubbs of Sycamore, Joy Reynolds of Sycamore, Oliver Grubbs of Sycamore, Robin (Tom) Marlow of Tennessee, Wendy (Rick) Scidmore of Sycamore and Allan McCabe of Kingston; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Larry was preceded in death by his mother and grandparents.
Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 14, at Sycamore Baptist Church, with Pastor Dan Stovall officiating. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. Saturday until the time of service at the church.

Larry was a genuinely good person. Larry would always tell us he was a man of "Peace and Love" he was true to that statement. Larry worked hard and fought hard but he never lost his smile or the spirit that drove him even in his last days with us. Larry was always thankful for his good friends but Larry was a good friend to all of us. I am sorry for the family’s loss but I am thankful that Larry will no longer be in pain. Larry could teach us a thing or two about how to handle ourselves he is a true hero so brave in his battle and true to himself. Larry will be missed by all who knew him.
