Robert (Rob) H. Benson died April 8, 2023, at Lincolnshire Place, Sycamore, Illinois. He was born May 6,1939 in Dixon Illinois, the son of Robert J. and Genevieve Benson. He graduated from Dixon High School in June of 1957 and married Donna J. Crader on October 27, 1963. He was employed by Northwestern Steel & Wire in Sterling, Illinois for over 30 years. He retired from Northwestern in 1991. He served in the Illinois National Guard and was a member of the Elks Club for most of his life.
Rob's interests included the Chicago White Sox, Chicago Bears, NASCAR, and golfing with his sons and many friends. In 2003, he and Donna moved to The Villages, Florida where they reconnected with many friends from the Dixon area.
While living in Florida, he developed an interest in landscaping and spent much of his time planting and pruning.
Survivors include the love of his life, Donna Benson of Sycamore, Illinois, two sons, Deron Benson of Crystal Lake, Illinois and Ryan Benson (Chelon) of Dekalb, Illinois, two grandchildren, Emma and Ella Valerius of Dekalb, Illinois, a sister, Sandy Struhs of Sterling, Illinois, and a handful of nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents.
A small gathering of family and friends will take place graveside at Chapel Hill Cemetery in Dixon, Illinois on July 21, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. followed by a luncheon at Palmyra Pub & Eatery.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the Elks Club youth charities.

My condolences to Bob´s family. We all grew up together through grade school and high school. The last time I saw Bob was at the Comfort/Quality Inn during a class reunion a number of years ago. Bob and his wife were living at The Villages in Florida. We had a nice conversation. I remember Bob as a fine person.

I worked with Bob for many years ! He is the one whom got me to buy my first new car 1 a VW Beetle !
