ROBERT KROGMAN Obituary

SYCAMORE-The Rev. Canon Robert A. Krogman passed away Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013, after a brief illness near his home in Sycamore, Ill.

Born in Oak Park, Ill., he studied at Trinity College in Hartford, Conn. before attending Seabury-Western Theological Seminary, where he found his calling and met the love of his life who would become his wife and partner of 57 years.

"Rev. Bob" to some, and "Father Krogman" to others, his sharp wit couldn't hide his deep compassion and faith. The world was his parish as he ministered to those in need without consideration given as to whether he had seen them in a pew on the preceding Sunday.

The large majority of his pastoral career spanned 37 years at St. James the Less Episcopal Church in Northfield, Ill. He saw the parish grow and thrive from its humble beginnings in the cafeteria of Sunset Ridge School into a community of faith and welcome. He was subsequently called to other places in the larger Northern Illinois Episcopal community, in places as far reaching as Sycamore, Dundee, Rockford and points beyond.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Lisbeth; children, Mark, David, John, Francie and William; and grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15, at St. James the Less Episcopal Church, 550 Sunset Ridge Road in Northfield.

The family has asked, in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to a charity of your choice.

I'm very grateful for the the years Father Krogman spent in Northfield. It meant a great deal to me personally...Jay, without a father of his own.

Beth,
Carol and I have fond memories of you and Bob at the many Trinity freshman send off BBQs in the '60s and '70s. Also, Bob and I worked together on the Trinity Scholars Foundation for at least 35 years. He always had great insights in solving our various issues. Often he would combine his insights with his wonderful sense of humor. I will miss him.

I'm sorry for your loss. I grew up with Father Krogman and he was a calm, supportive force in my life: So many good memories. My father, David, who was fairly involved with St. James the Less felt that Bob was a wonderful, thoughtful spirtual leader. I'm very pleased to have known him.

Dear Beth and Family, Laura and I are very thankful for Bob's witness to Christ and his life of faithful service in God's Church and to so many people in personal ways. He meant a lot to me just out of seminary 1974-76. God's peace be with you and the faith that tells us he is in a larger life with God and that one day we shall see him again. Hope and comfort to each of you as you miss your husband and father. Blessings to you all from Kent & Laura Tarpley in Virginia.

Beth, So sorry for your loss. I didn't know your husband well but from the comments in this guest book, he sounds like a really good man.

Beth-
Dave always thought of Bob as his spiritual father and relished the time he was with us at St. Philip's in Palatine. I am quite sure Dave will be on the welcome ramp in heaven waiting to swap stories with Bob. Much love and peace to you.

Lisbeth,
I met your husband a couple of times at events at Kishwaukee College and he always brought a smile to my face with his sweet and dry wit. I am so sorry to hear of his passing. Please know my love and thoughts are with you and your family.

Dear Beth and Family,
We are so sorry for your loss of Fr.Bob. He was such a kind and gentle person. Always up beat and could find good in all. His humor was second to none. Very quick witted and always a step ahead of the game. You know that your day was going to be good if you ran into Fr. Bob. He left that type of impression on you. Fr. Bob baptized our son, and therefore will always be a part of our family. We love youe Fr. Bob and will miss you greatly. Our utmost Respect and Love, Henry, Pat, Bronwyn, and Henry III Burgweger

I was so well blessed to have Fr.Bob as a person who guided me through the ordination process whenI was the parish associate a St.James the Less. Bob, Beth and their children were living and reachable icons of the Christian Gospel in everyday life. He was the only person I ever met in which a boundless intellect was matched by a gracious sense of humor.

Beth and the Krogman Family,
Please accept our condolences on the passing of Fr. Bob. He was a wonderful priest who was brave and courageous. I will always remember him as a strong advocate for the ordination of women in the Episcopal Church. His gift of support and encouragement enabled many women to persevere during the most challenging times. Bob, we love you and we will miss you. May you rest in peace.

To the Krogman Family,
Please accept my sympathy as you mourn your beloved husband and father. Bob was one of the first priests I met outside my own parish in this diocese and we worked together many times. He used to come and visit me in the basement of Glenbrook Hospital (where I worked) when he was visiting parishioners. He was a good will ambassador for the Episcopal Church everywhere. I will miss him.

I am deeply saddened to learn of Father Krogman's passing. My family were original mambers of St. James the less. I can still recall attending services in the Sunset Ridge cafeteria as a very young child. My deepest symathies to the entire Krogman family. Father Krogman helped shape the person I am and faith I have today. I still refer to the first prayer book he gave me, signed by him. God Bless!

Our sympathy to Father's wife and family. The very first time I shared a pew with him and heard him sing I asked him if he was God. A wonderful kind and joyous Priest.

Dear Mrs. Krogman and Family,
Please accept my sympathy at Fr. Bob's passing. In my time as an interim and later as a rector, I got to know him some, and always found him to be straightforward, friendly and concerned. He had great insight. We remembered him at the Eucharists this past Sunday. May he rest in Christ's peace and rise in Christ's glory.

To all of Father Krogman's family, our deepest sympathies. He was a wonderful man, a core piece of our Northfield community, and a real treasure. For me personally we had so many opportunities with our paths crossing, to work together on some little project or other, to share a smile and a story. Memories don't substitute for the person, yet hopefully help. They will for me. May peace and understanding stay with you.
