Just a note on this anniversary of his passing... Doug and I would like to let you know there is a bright light missing from this earth without Bob in our lives. We have passed down to our son, Greg, a lot of Bobs favorite sayings. Including Ruby Tuesday, the Bob Ruby Short Cut and the Straights of Ruby in high school! We spent many weekends watching the guys tear down and rebuild many VW engines just for something to do. Sports Car Club, MYF, trips to Wisconsin and all the rallys and slaloms. I even attended a slalom on my honeymoon!
Our son now is a Toyota Senior Master Technician in Las Vegas, NV and we couldnt be more proud! We miss the trips into Chicago to go to JC Witney and the runs to Elgin to Jack in the Box to buy tacos! Hey Clowny!
Needless to say, we will always count Bob in with our closest friends and want to let his family know, we are thinking of them and Bob at this time. He always had a good word and was willing to help you no matter what was wrong with your ride! We know you are enjoying driving all the cool cars up there in heaven. Gone too soon...bless you Bob.

To the Family of Robert Ruby

My thoughts and prayers are with you. I loved his family like they were my own even Harvey.
I have not seen Bob for many years. He was my High School Sweetheart. We went together for four years. We thought we would be married.
I have wonderful memories of Bob. Senior Prom, Wisconsin Dells, trips to Chicago, watching the stars, camping, Road America, Drive-in movies with our friends, Racing, Corvair's, Pinto's.
I have a shoe box full of all of these memories. Every ticket stub. Poems, letters he wrote to me but the best treasure of all are the pictures I have of him.
He had a brilliant smile. You could never stay mad at him.
I am glad Bob had a daughter. Megan, I knew he would be a great father. My prayers are with you. He was so young. Think of the good times you had with him and never forget his love for you.
My heart goes out to all of his family and friends. He will be missed.
Bless you. May God comfort you and give you peace.

To Bob's family,

I'm so sorry to hear of Bob's passing. Although we had been out of touch for some time, I have always considered him to be a great friend. He taught me much of what I know about fixing cars, skills that I utilize to this day. I think of him often. We had some amazing adventures together.

Rest in peace, friend.

To the Bob Ruby Family,

My sympathy goes out to the entire Ruby family. I got to know Bob very well through Bob's brother Dick and sister-in-law Brenda. We have many fond memories of our boat trips and camping on the Mississippi River. I always admired his relationship with his daughter Megan, he was a very good father- she was his world! He will be sadly missed.

Our deepest sympathies to the family of Robert Ruby,
We first met Bob in high school. While the rest of us were always looking for something interesting to do, Bob was always doing something interesting. I learned to drive a car with a manual transmission in Bob’s fabric sunroof Beetle. Bob was with me when I bought my first new car. Bob and I made many trips together into Chicago to buy car parts at J.C. Whitney. We also made many trips to Wisconsin, to visit Mark at Stout State (see attached photo, which has hung on the wall of our computer room for nearly 15 years).
Bob was such an integral part of our lives that I asked him to be Best Man at our wedding.
I think the thing we remember most about Bob, is the infamous Bob Ruby Shortcut. Whenever we were far from home and in a hurry to get back, Bob would always know a shortcut. This typically involved back roads that none of us, including Bob, had ever been on or heard of. Bob Ruby shortcut driving times were almost always half again as long as the obvious and direct route. We always looked forward to hearing Bob say, “Don’t worry, I know a shortcut.” Spending time with Bob was always an adventure.
We’ll miss you Bob.

I am sorry to hear of Bob's Passing. I met Bob in high school through our mutual interest in cars. Bob had access to his parents wonderful heated garage. We spent many hours there turning wrenches keeping our cars running. I remember helping Bob turn the exhaust manifolds around on his turbocharged corvair. We pointed them out the back and added straight pipes. We thought they sounded great but the police did not think so when they stopped him.
Some of my other memories involve the Methodist MYF, road trips to the Byron Dragway, and work at the local Gulf station.
I last saw Bob about 20 years ago. I was at the Kane County Gun Show talking to someone. Bob happened to walk by, he did not recognised me but recognised my voice. We talked for awhile and brought our lives current.
May Peace Be With You.

Dear Ruby family

Very sorry to hear of Bob's death. I always loved his family and have fond memories of spending time with them. Bob taught me how to drive a stick shift and I spent hours hanging out with him in the garage as he worked on cars (I never learned what all those parts were, where they came from or where they went back!). I did learn a little about tools, though! I remember his big smile and big brown eyes, slalom races, trips to Wisconsin, sewing a red velvet dress for neice Barbie, drive in movies, donuts, pizza and tacos, proms, the Dunes, James Taylor, driving around town, youth group, camping, and receiving my first pair of contacts....He will always hold a special place in my heart.
I send my deepest sympathy to the family.

Sunny, you smiled at me and really, really eased the pain...

Dear Ruby Family
I am sadden to hear the news of Bob passing away. We grew up in the same nieghborhood and our families where freinds so we spent alot of time together. Many of my favorite memories growing up invovled Bob, as kids we would spend hours building a large excavation site in the back yard with our toy trucks. One summer we decided to mowed lawns together, one of our customer had a lawnmower that would not start, so to "fix it" we totally dismantaled it, it never ran again. But that was the beginning of many years of building things together, beginning with mini bikes and boats, before moving onto all kinds of cars. And of course the many trips to the cabin in Montello where we learned to drive Richards van and drive his boat, the summer he got hurt diving into the lake. Bob was always a good and trusted friend that I will miss.
God Bless

To Bob Ruby's Family,
Frank and I would like to tell you that Bob was a truly good friend & man.
The last time we saw Bob was at the 20 year Class Reunion. He teased me about forgetting that the automatic shifter on a Corvair is on the dashboard.
Please accept our deepest sympathies for your loss.

My thoughts are with Bob's family. Bob and I were part of a small tight group in high school and I will never forget our "Iron Tire Man", drive in movies, and watching him working on his TR3. I have thought of him frequently over the last 30-some years and have always had the fondest memories of the times we all spent together.
