Born: September 20, 1937; in Chicago, IL

Died: July 14, 2018; in DeKalb, IL

Hon. Thomas Edward Hogan, 80, of DeKalb, IL passed away on Saturday, July 14, 2018 surrounded by his family at Kishwaukee Hospital in DeKalb.

Thomas was born September 20, 1937 in Chicago, IL, the son of Francis and Margaret (nee. O'Connor) Hogan. He was united in marriage to Diane V. Belden, on June 15, 1968 in Buffalo Grove, IL. Thomas graduated from Saint Ignatius High School in Chicago in 1955. After serving in the United States Army in the Counter Intelligence Corps in 1962, he graduated from Loyola Law School with a Juris Doctorate degree in 1972. He became an Assistant States' Attorney for the State of Illinois in 1974 and entered private practice in 1977. In 1981 he was appointed as an Associate Judge for the 16th Judicial Circuit and became a Circuit Judge in 1996. Thomas also belonged to various organizations including The Boy Scouts of America, The Knights of Columbus, and the Lions Club. Thomas was a resident of Elburn, Illinois in 1974 and retired with Diane to Bella Vista, Arkansas in 2002. He recently returned to Illinois and moved to DeKalb to be closer to his children and grandchildren.

Thomas is survived by his loving wife, Diane; his three children, Patrick (Joanna) Hogan, Peter (Julianne) Hogan and Meg (Joe) Blomquist; six grandchildren, Katie and Connor Hogan, Riley and Madaline Hogan, and Lyla and Mallory Blomquist; two brothers, Michael (Helen) Hogan and William Hogan; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, James Hogan; and a sister, Mary Ann Buban.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Friday, July 20, 2018 at Moss Family Funeral Home, 209 S. Batavia Ave., Batavia, IL. 60510. Prayers will begin at 10:00 AM on Saturday, July 21, 2018, also at the funeral home. A funeral mass will follow at 10:30 AM at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 2300 Main St, Batavia, IL 60510. Interment will be held at Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery in Hillside, IL.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in his name may be made to the following; St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or The Wounded Warriors Project.

Rest in Peace Judge Hogan. Condolences to the family. Another member of the old guard of judges sitting when I began. Many are gone and are missed including Judge Hogan.
