Thomas Emmet Platt
Born: January 1, 1952
Died: December 31, 2025
Thomas Emmet Platt, age 73, of Manteno, Illinois, passed away on December 31, 2025. Born January 1, 1952, in Chicago, Illinois, Tom lived a quiet and fulfilling life in retirement, surrounded by the family he cherished.
Tom was the son of the late Kenneth Platt and Margo (Kish) Platt. He was the proud and devoted father of Thomas Kenneth Platt (Laura) and the beloved grandfather of Madisen Ann Platt, Cole Wild Platt, and Claire Marie Platt. He is also survived by his brothers Wayne Loewy (Patricia) and Martin G. Platt, and was preceded in death by his sister Pamela Platt (Dado). Tom enjoyed the years of his younger life with his siblings and his cousins, the Cooks and the Flynns as well as all the kids in his neighborhood.
Raised in South Holland, Illinois, Tom graduated from Thornridge High School. In 1977, he married Marianne Anderson, and together they shared 26 years of family life. Their greatest joy was raising their son, Tom, and creating a home filled with love, laughter, and countless memories – sports, boating, camping, travel and time spent with extended family, friends and neighbors.
Tom loved his job of 25 years as chief engineer at The Chicago Historical Society in Lincoln Park. He was a gifted mechanic and a talented artist, known for his skillful hands and creative mind. He found joy in house projects, mechanical work, and caring for his yard. A lifelong motorcycle enthusiast, he also loved boating and fishing, especially when shared with family and friends.
In his later years, Tom's life was brightened by his close and loving relationship with Kelly Stluka, whose companionship brought him deep happiness until her passing in 2024.
Tom will be remembered for his quiet strength, his craftsmanship, his loyalty to those he loved, and the gentle, steady presence he brought to every chapter of his life. His two dogs, Roxy and Riley were his close companions that brought him much comfort and company.
Tom was known as Papa Vroom Vroom to his loving grandchildren.
He enjoyed spending Christmas Day with his family.
Tom's favorite poem
So take a ride with me my love
As high as we can fly
Through soft white clouds of serenity
We'll sail the crystal skies
While those back home continue to search
For worries they can find
We'll only think of each other's love
And find peace of mind
