Joseph Dale Gustafson, age 66, a longtime resident of Lockport, Illinois, passed away peacefully on February 4, 2026.
Born on January 26, 1960, in Blue Island, Illinois, Joe was the son of Dale R. and Marianne H. Gustafson. He grew up in Dalton, IL, where he played on the Dolton Bears football team while attending St. Mary's Elementary School and was a member of the wrestling team at Thornridge High School. Joe was a proud union member and certified welder for Chicago Pipefitters Local 597, where he worked for 42 years, from 1982 until his retirement in 2020.
An avid golfer, Joe enjoyed time spent on the course. He was also the family handyman, a true "Mr. Fix-It" who crafted many things by hand for his loved ones.
Joe was the beloved husband of Maureen (nee Davia), with whom he built a life filled with love and shared memories. He was the proud and loving father of David, Doug, Melanie, and Ian, always offering his support and guidance. Joseph is survived by his brothers, Dennis and his wife Julia (nee Murphy), Don and his wife Pam (nee Ellis); and his sister, Nancy Stachura (Don). He was also a devoted uncle to his many nieces and nephews, who will miss his presence dearly.
Joe’s legacy of kindness and his commitment to his family will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, contributions to an Autism charity of your choice would be appreciated.
