Catherine Bell Obituary

Catherine Elizabeth "Kay" (Lee) Bell was born on July 1, 1940, in Oak Park, IL. She passed away surrounded by her family on October 1, 2023, at Lightways Hospice Care facility in Joliet, IL.

Kay grew up an only child in Oak Park with her mother, Ruth, and her aunt, Agnes. She played tennis and enjoyed playing the clarinet for the Oak Park and River Forest High School marching band. She loved spending summers in Wilton Center, IL and time in San Antonio, TX with her cousins, aunts and uncles. Kay received her Associate's degree from Joliet Junior College and worked as a legal secretary commuting to downtown Chicago.

Kay enjoyed bowling and going out with friends to the Frankfort Bowling Alley. This is where she met the love of her life, Orville "Orv" Bell. They were married in March of 1966 at the United Methodist Church of New Lenox.

Orv and Kay moved to Frankfort, IL in 1972 and became members of the Frankfort United Methodist Church where they made wonderful life-long friends. Kay had a strong faith and being involved in the church was the highlight of her days.

Through the church, she was a pre-school teacher and involved in youth group and mom's morning out programs. She was a troop leader for Brownies and Girl Scouts and made sure she was present at every sport/activity watching her children and grandchildren throughout the years. She was devoted to her family and didn't want to miss any moments or special occasions. Kay had a sincere, loving smile for everyone she knew and met along the way. She will be dearly missed.

She is survived by her husband, Orville Bell and two daughters, Diane (Bob) Simon of Frankfort and Janet (Steve) Pasek of New Lenox. Grandma Kay is also survived by ten grandchildren: Robert Simon, Danielle Pasek, Vaughn Clymer, Catherine Simon, MacKenzie Pasek, Mary Clare Simon, Ava Clymer, Ann Simon, Margaret Simon, and Mark Simon.

Kay was preceded in death by her parents, Ruth Oliver and Clifford Lee, aunts and uncles.

On Saturday, October 21st, services will be held at the United Methodist Church of New Lenox. Visitation from 9am to 11am, Memorial Service at 11am and a light luncheon to follow.

For those desiring, contributions may be made in her memory to the United Methodist Church of New Lenox, 339 W. Haven Avenue, New Lenox, IL 60451.
