Last Saturday night, Johnny Cifelli and Alfio Palanca and I were out at a 70th birthday party and Sammy´s name came up when we were talking about the Marian basketball team playing the Bloom Trojans back in 1973. Sammy was a starting guard along side gunner Joe Berg for Marian as they battled a talented Bloom team. (Bloom prevailed). We all played pick up basketball games at the old East view gym in Steger. Heated, competitive battles, loving every minute of it. Sammy and I and his cousin Joe, who I worked with at Red Lion all thru high school, use to sneak on Lincolnshire Country Club on Monday´s (caddy day) to enjoy the day on a great golf course. Joe´s dad was a member there although we weren´t suppose to be out there but that´s what made it more fun. Not a care in the world. Lord, those were the days. Remembering you my friend. We swished some nets and carded some birdies together. Rest in piece.

WOW a year. My Mom worked at the Red Lion & Brown Onion. The Scrementi Family, Stevie & Sam practically grew alongside my siblings and myself. With Easter around the corner I recall my Mom working at Red Lion making the hot cross Easter Buns.

I wish I had current contact information to send privately a message to Mark, Steve and David and Sam's family. Sammy and I grew up together in Steger, He was one year my junior, and he and Mark and I with a few neighborhood friends made several trips to Wrigley field as kids.. That' s when it was safe, Sammy presided me at NIU by a year but he rode with me to Dekalb for my first day moving from Steger to NIU.
Sammy knew how to make the connections " south side Chgo Hts Way" which he generously introduced me to all the " go to" people in Dekalb. He made it his business to know them and they knew him.
He was a wonderful guy and will be deeply missed.

A handsome guy and outstanding athlete.

Very saddened to hear the news about my dear friend and former Steger Babe Ruth baseball teammate. It’s been a few years since we brought the championship trophy back to Sammy’s hometown. He was a great athlete and a man with a heart of gold. Rest In Peace my friend.
