Joe and every one of his siblings were more like my siblings than my cousins because we all grew up together on our grandfather's farm. I was the eldest, followed by Joe's oldest brother Andy ... and it was basically stairstep from there all the way to Joe's youngest brother Ramon. Joe was the 4th child in his family. My cousins and I did everything together until I had to move away which broke my heart. I remember Joe as sweet and kind, with the sort of innocence that keeps track of our hopes and prayers...the sort of innocence that hopes and prays for life to deliver goodness beyond our human comprehension because life is complicated. He had the most precious smile and a touch of shyness that just drew a person to him. We called him Little Joe growing up (after our Grandpa Joe) ... He is forever in our hearts and memories. (I am going to post a picture of Joe and my little sister Jacqui - they were about the same age.)
