Larry V. Stewart

1949 - 2016

Larry V. Stewart, 67, of Flora Vista, went to be with his heavenly family on Sunday, April 3, 2016. He was born Feb. 4, 1949, to Arlie and Berline Stewart in Safford, Ariz.
Safford was the temporary stopping point of the original El Paso Natural Gas Company pipeline being constructed across the U.S. Arlie was an equipment operator during that time and continued to work for EPNG for 40 years, retiring in 1983. It was only natural that Larry began his 23-year career with EPNG. He started in the machine shop sweeping floors and cleaning machinery. After two fellow machinists took Larry under their wings, he worked his way through the ranks, ultimately becoming a master machinist and superintendent over the machine shop. Because of his amazing knowledge and talent, in 1989, Larry was promoted to the position of superintendent of a large machine shop in El Paso, Texas, where he oversaw 20 employees.
After retiring in 1994, Larry and his family moved back to Farmington, where he built, from the ground up, his own machine shop, Basin Specialty. He loved being in his machine shop (man cave) and would lend a helping hand to anyone needing his expertise.
As a young man, his first love was motorcycles. Larry loved riding his dirt bike with his brother and their buds on the bluffs. Larry, as a master machinist with his gift and talent, fabricated remarkable parts for his little brother's motorcycle, allowing many first-place trophies to be won. ""What an awesome big brother.""
Later in life, he enjoyed riding his Harley. Some of his greatest pleasures came from being ""Papa"" to his grandchildren and spending time with his family and friends.
Larry was preceded in death by his mother, Berline. He leaves behind his father, Arlie; wife, Kathy ""KR""; brother, Don, and his wife, Kim, and son, Shane; daughter, Shelly, and her husband, Tony, and daughter, Natalie; grandchildren, Donavan and his wife, Anna, and Tony, Derick, Krystle, Eryka and Emmye; and great-grandchildren, Breanna, Abbigail, Anthony and Junior.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, April 15, at Farmington Funeral Home, 2111 W. Apache in Farmington. Larry and KR would have celebrated their 39th wedding anniversary on this day, and KR's wishes are to lay him to rest on the anniversary of their beginning. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery.
