(1971-2021) On Tuesday January 5. 2021, Mert Bates beloved brother, cousin, uncle and nephew passed away at the age of 49 in Brighton, Colordao. Born on August 27, 1971 to Ms. Celina Bates of Shiprock, NM.

Mert spent most of his childhood in Shiprock where he attended the local schools until he eventually grew to welcome a life on the road. Traveling to different cities, either to visit family or just to "check it out", and only staying long enough to provide his good company, his sense of humor (followed with a lot of laughs), and his collection of stories.

With a huge sense of adventure, He would always welcome what was in front of him. He learned to adapt and accept every situation he encountered and he would always go out of his to help those around him. He was unique in his own way and this is what made him who he was, Free. We will miss everything about Mert, especially those crazy stories and all the laughs he would bring along with him every time he came home.

Mert is survived by His Sisters, Kimberly Multine & Family, Allison Multine & family of Shiprock NM, and Thomacita Dawes of Farmington NM. Brothers Eric Multine of Shiprock NM and Michael Dawes and Family from Farmington NM. He is also survived by His maternal grandmother Ms. Alice Bates whom he called "Shi Ma" and his paternal grandmother Ms. Marian Multine both of Shiprock NM. Along with His aunts Cynthia Bates. Nadine Bates. Della Bates. Clara Bates and Numerous cousins who will always remember the laughter he brought to our family.

He is preceeded in death by His mother Ms. Celina Bates. His step-father who he called "daddy" Mr. Eugene Multine. Niece Shawna Multine. Nephews Justin Litson and John Litson Jr., his cousin Devona Charles. Grandfather Harry Bates Sr., Uncles Harry Bates Jr., Fredrick Bates, and Levon Bates.

The family has decided on cremation for Mert and arrangements are pending. Due to COVID and the health guidelines in place, the family has decided on a celebration of his life at a later time. We thank everyone for the words of Comfort and the prayers given for our loss.
