Michael Farrell Obituary

Michael Francis Dennis Farrell, beloved father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away on Tuesday, March 17, 2015, in Las Vegas, Nev. Being the good Irishman he was, we are sure he held out for St. Patrick's Day to say his final goodbye.
Mike (Micky to his parents and siblings) was born April 19, 1928, in New York City. He was the oldest of six children born to Michael and Margaret (Seimetz) Farrell.
Dad grew up in the city during humble times and often reflected back on how his family had little in the way of material belongings, but learned to make do with what they had.
At the age of 17, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and spent four years serving his country. During his time in the military, he met and married his first wife, Geraldine Miller. She, too, was in the military. They lived in Wichita, Kan., and Davis, Calif., before settling in Las Vegas.
Mike worked for the U.S. Post Office, as well as at various part-time jobs in order to care for his family. Gerry passed away Jan. 1, 1963, leaving Mike with four sons to raise. Later that year, Mike met and married Mary Louise Foutz. She had a son and three daughters, and they happily combined their families and started a wonderful journey of 50 years together. Louise passed away Nov. 15, 2013.
Mike and Louise lived in Las Vegas, where he worked for Myers Electric. After several years, they moved to Bloomfield, where they owned and operated Mike's 7-till-11 for more than 20 years.
After they retired, they moved to Phoenix, Ariz., and then on to San Diego, Calif., eventually moving back to Las Vegas in 2009.
Mike was "one of a kind"! He had that strong New Yorker background and ALWAYS told it like it was. He was rough and tough on the outside, but on the inside was a kind and generous man who will certainly be missed by many.
Mike also was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Billy; and daughter, Karen Foutz Brown.
He is survived by his brothers, Phillip (Fran) and Donny; sisters, Sis and Babe; children, Doreen (Bill) Bloomfield of Farmington, Anita (Larry) Mulherin of Reno, Nev., Sterling (Kim) Foutz of Phoenix, Mike Farrell Jr. of Richardson, Texas, Chris (Cassie)Farrell of Las Vegas, Nev., and Pat (Shannon) Farrell and Joe (Bev) Farrell, both of Farmington. There are 18 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Sunday, March 22 at the Brewer, Lee and Larking Funeral Home, 103 E. Ute St. in Farmington.
Funeral services for Mike will be at 11 a.m. Monday, March 23, at Brewer, Lee and Larkin Funeral Home.
Interment at Greenlawn Cemetery 1606 N. Dustin Ave. in Farmington will follow the service.
Mike's care is entrusted to Brewer, Lee and Larkin Funeral Home, 103 E. Ute St. in Farmington, 505-325-8688. Those who wish to express their condolences may do so at www.serenityandcompany.com.
