Barbara Taylor Obituary

Barbara Beauvais Taylor
ELIZABETH CITY - Barbara Beauvais Taylor, 66, passed away Friday, January 24, 2025. Barbara was born October 30, 1958, in Flemington, NJ, to the late Alfred Joseph Beauvais, Jr. and Betty Edwards Beauvais, of Courtland, VA.
Barbara spent her entire childhood growing up on dairy farms in NJ, NC, and later, Franklin, VA. She was a 1977 graduate of Franklin High School and graduated as an LPN from South Hampton Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. She worked as a nurse for many years before she founded Kids Taxi, in Elizabeth City, in 1996, where she spent many years caring for other children, just as she did her own.
Barbara's happiest moments were spending time with her family; especially, "The apple of her eye", her grandson, Wake. She enjoyed spending her weekends at the beach and fishing with family and friends. Barbara also enjoyed traveling and was an avid reader.
Left to cherish her memory, her husband of 40 years, James Granville Taylor, Sr.; daughter, Ashley Taylor Gilbird (Derek) of Camden, NC; grandson, Wake Gilbird; sisters, Emma Turner (Wayne) of Sedley, VA, Wanda Bradshaw (Jeb) of Courtland, VA, and Sheila Earls (Scott) of Franklin, VA; brother, Roger Beauvais of Franklin, VA; sister-in-law, Anne Winslow (John); brother-in-law, Terry Taylor (Joanie); and many beloved nieces and nephews.
The family would like to give special thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff in the medical ICU at Sentara Albemarle Medical Center.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 30, 2025, at Twiford Memorial Chapel, with Reverend Philip Harden officiating. A private burial will follow at West Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives for a visitation on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m., at the funeral home.

We wanted to share our deepest condolences for your loss, James. Although we never had the pleasure to meet Barbara, we felt like we knew her through our conversations over the year's with you, James. I do know you were always there for her, by her side. Your wonderful example of that kind of devotion and love I will always remember as it is a wonderful example to live by with and for those we love.
Sincerely and with warm regards,
Mark and Saffy
