Charlie Whitehurst Obituary

Charlie Whitehurst Aydlett resident Charlie Randall Whitehurst, 68, of 115 Deerfield Lane, Aydlett, N.C., died Thursday, Dec. 27, 2007, at the residence of his daughter. He was born in Ayden, N.C. to the late John Morris and Emily Avery Whitehurst. Mr. Whitehurst was a former deacon for the Powells Point Baptist Church and was a route salesman for many years on the Outer Banks. He served in the National Guard. He is survived by three daughters, Suzanne Elkin and Wayne Mills, of Aydlett, N.C., Debbie Dowdy and husband, Billy, of Jarvisburg, N.C. and Charlene Staples and husband, Gene, of Jarvisburg, N.C.; one son, Charlie R. Whitehurst Jr. and Rhonda Narquis, of Kitty Hawk, N.C.; a step daughter, Tangie Caro and husband, Ron, of Grandy, N.C. Also surviving are four sisters, Jo Gregory and husband, Bobby, Margaret Potter, and husband, Vernon, Maxine Bates and husband, Rocky, and Ellen Richardson and husband, Carlton; one brother, Bobby Whitehurst, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A very special companion, Joyce Wilbur, survived Mr. Whitehurst. Graveside services will be conducted Saturday, Dec. 29, 2007, at 11 a.m. in the Powells Point Baptist Church Cemetery by Rev. Herbert A. Hemingway. Immediately following the graveside service, the family will receive friends and relatives in the church's social hall. A visitation will be held today from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Twiford Funeral Home, Northside Chapel, 1115 N. Road Street, Elizabeth City, NC and other times, at the residence of his daughter, Suzanne Elkin, 115 Deerfield Lane, Aydlett, NC.
